Dispose of a recalled cpap?

Post by Starlette » Tue Jun 11, 2024 12:01 am

Hey all.
I have around three recalled resmed cpaps. The ones that were recalled.
How are you disposing them?

Thank you,
Starlette

I am aware of no recalled Resmed cpaps.
The machiness recalled were RESPIRONICS! --Philips-Respironics.
--and the recall meant they wanted them sent in,
(To eliminate evidence )

I stand corrected Chunkyfrog, thank you.

#1 What do you mean by "Hide the evidence"?
#2 What can I do to dispose of the 3 I have?

As to your question about what to do with the three machines you have... We had four recalled machines. For each one when they sent a new machine, they also sent a box with label to return the recalled machine. I did that for three of them but never got around to doing it for the last one. If you didn't get any boxes to return them in, I'd keep them awhile and if you don't hear anything just toss them.

If you didn't get replacement/new machines from Respironics but got new ones on your own, I'd just toss the old recalled ones.

Some recalled machines might be used as evidence
of intentional misdeeds by the manufacturer, in a court of law.
(Should one have the resources to actually do that!)
There should have been a provision
that the bad machines be held by an impartial third party--
But that never happened--and likely never will!
Philips' huge pile of money bought them THEIR choice of 'justice'.

That, unfortunately, is all too common these days.

Thanks all. At this point of the game, I'd just as soon prefer to trash them all myself.
Its been long enough.
The main reason I contacted you all is because I was trying to act responsible by being eco-friendly.
So, I'll locate my trashcan and dispose of all 3 that way.
Thanks all for responding.

I would first go to town on them with the blunt instrument of your choice.
A common sledge hammer, in whatever size you can swing safely is nice;
but any old hammer, mallet, or brick would suffice.
Don't want some poor soul trying to use those abominations.
No, I am not trying to wax poetic.

The CPAP's would be considered 'electronic' devices and may contain toxic metals and other substances that should not go in regular trash. Most cities and towns have programs or facilities to properly dispose of electronic devices that are 'eco-friendly'. It appears Denver does.
