Minor confusion in the morning, wake up with panic and numb arm

Post by Mattlovescats » Tue Jun 04, 2024 10:48 am

Hi folks,

It’s been a while since I’ve been here, I’m just after a bit of advice please? So I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in 2017 whilst morbidly obese. I’ve lost a lot of weight now - down from 180kg to 120kg, but still have OSA. I also suffer from anxiety sometimes but it’s usually well controlled.

So after feeling great for a few years, I woke up with vertigo, dizziness one morning, and my heart rate was a bit lower (I’m on a beta blocker). After that I occasionally got panic in the day but presumed it was my anxiety. So I went on a bit of an anxiety spiral - but what made it worse was waking up in the morning feeling terrible, just minor confusion which would feed my anxiety.

I keep waking with panic attacks at night and waking up with numb arm. The anxiety got so bad that I dissociated.

Every day I kept feeling better as the day went on, best in the afternoon and evening.

So it’s 3am and it happened again, and I wonder if I’m having very bad apneas that my resmed Airmini isn’t controlling. I was so preoccupied with the Anxiety that I forgot I have OSA! So I’m just back for some advice please.

Can having bad apneas cause anxiety and confusion in the morning? I have seen a lot of GPs but none investigated or considered my OSA. Thanks in advance.

Could be. Do you know how to see your machine's AHI number?

Have you talked to your doctor about what happened? Not everything's about apnea even if it's sleep related.

Hey,

Yep I went to the hospital. They diagnosed me with having compressed both ulnar nerves from over typing (have been typing diaries a lot during this time), and that I’m suffering from SSRI withdrawal, yay.

So I was laying on my arms wrong from the typing compression and that caused numbness - which made it feel like an apnea.

I’ll make another post seeking advice on that now.
