Refurbish or buy new?
Refurbish or buy new?
I have the Resmed Autosense 10. I just got the end of life message. Is it better to get it refurbished with a new motor by an authorized repair center, or buy a new one? I’d like to save money, but at the same time, don’t want something that will break.

Re: Refurbish or buy new?
What's your insurance situation? What's the difference in price? Which suppliers are you considering?
Whether you buy new or refurbished, make sure to keep your old machine for a backup.

Re: Refurbish or buy new?
Insurance covers it, but makes you suffer for it, and must get it from one of those giant private equity owned DMEs. I’m talking about refurbishing the one I have, rather than buying a refurbished one. Probably $400 vs $1000

Dream321;
Do You have a backup machine now ??
You probably need a machine while this one is
being serviced ..
Refurbishing, Shipping time both ways, might take
2,3,or more weeks ..
I know dealing with big corporate firms is no fun ..
But biting the bullet now may make life easier down the road ..
Good Luck with Your decision ..

Re: Refurbish or buy new?
I completely rebuilt my AS10 Autoset... the motor was 130USD on Amazon, the clock battery (solder-in) was 5USD on DigiKey. I also thoroughly cleaned the unit. It should be good for another 22,000hours. I did buy a C2C machine before I took this one apart... but it was not difficult to do, I could have skipped that.
Since I paid for a bi-level titration and fulfilled my deductible for the year I went ahead and got a new Aircurve 10 vAuto... will end up costing me about 350USD... they make you rent-to-own and when your deductible year changes the rent goes way up... US insurance (United PPO) is a racket. I have vAuto firmware running on at least two other AS10's... but I wanted a white one... and I wanted United to buy it for me. I guess I have five Ax10's now.
Sleeplay is still running the AS10 Elite (non-APAP) for 299USD with code BESTPRICE... this is a screaming deal... put vAuto firmware on it, runs like a champ, even reports to MyAir as a vAuto. Nobody should miss this chance to own a great machine even if you can't update the firmware... and if you live near me (Austin) PM me.

Check out the refurbished and open-box machines at https://www.secondwindcpap.com/#09e4/fu ... 10+autoset. They are a reputable supplier.
Sometimes, great deals can be found on CraigsList.
That's strange. My insurance has some excellent local and regional DMEs.
I didn't know there were any giant private-equity-owned DMEs. Do you know what the term means?
