REMStar 560 vs Dreamstation 1

Post by BlizzardUK » Thu May 23, 2024 10:00 am

Did anyone move from the 560 to the DS1 and notice ANY differences with how it was used and how you felt in the mornings ?

I used my new DS1 for the first time that replaced my 560 and I feel a bit dizzy today and heavy on the chest when breathing, however this could be coincidence and unrelated as I am a hypochondriac and change is hard to accept. I have the settings the same as my old 560. I really liked the 560 but wasn't sure whether to replace with the recall or just remove the foam, I took the risk and replaced.

So is there any likely reason or are the machines essentially the same in all but look ? If you were in my shoes would you have replaced the 560 for a free DS1 or just removed the foam ?

Thanks.

I did the very same move and think the DS1 is a good machine except for an annoying whine in the motor. I would say give it a chance . You have nothing to lose.

Forget settings. What was your AHI and leak level?

AHI last night was 1.40. The grey bar is where I got up for a pee.

BlizzardUK,

How does the data you posted compare with a typical night with the old Series 560?

Here's a random night with the 560.

Truth be told, there's no real significant difference between the two nights of data.

There is, however, one thing that is worth pointing out:

The settings on the Series One 560 were APAP with a min pressure of 9 and a max pressure of 15. And it looks like you had A-Flex set to 3. The settings on the new DreamStation 1 are APAP with a pressure range of 10-15.5 and A-Flex is set to 3. It could be that the 1cm increase in Min Pressure is just enough to be making your chest muscles a bit sore because they are having to work just a wee bit harder. For most people, a 1cm increase in min pressure is not really noticeable, but for a few highly sensitive folks (including me) it can make a difference between being comfortable and uncomfortable.

So you might try changing the pressure range back to 9-15 and see if that takes care of waking up feeling a bit dizzy and "heavy on the chest when breathing"/

Finally, for what it is worth: Many years ago when I went from a Series One 750 (BiPap Auto) to a DreamStation 1 BiPap Auto, I remember initially being a bit bothered by the difference in how the hose attached to the humidifier and I really didn't like the fact that changing humidifier settings was now much more difficult. That did trigger a few "anxious" nights (I don't like change either) and as a result it took a few nights sleeping with the machine before my brain let go of the visual difference between the machines and quit worrying so much about the new difficulty in changing the humidifier setting. But my settings were exactly the same and after a week or so of using the new machine, my sleep was pretty much back to where it had been with the Series One 750.
