Early Morning Awakenings - CPAP advice please

Post by Sonatine600 » Wed Nov 22, 2023 4:17 pm

Hi All,

Seeking advice please :D I've been struggling with early morning awakenings

Before CPAP I used to sleep like a log (no one could wake me up hehe) but now on CPAP my sleep has become much lighter and I'm prone waking up between 1 to 3am each night - not sure what is going on :( Its impacting my quality of life - I've trended from 6.5hrs per night to now 5.5hrs avg total sleep... any advice would be very VERY VERY welcome!!! :D

Attached are some images from OSCAR. I'm using a ResMed AirSense 10 with a Philips Dreamwear Full Face Mask.

Based on some YouTube videos (from TheLankyLefty27 and others) I'm suspicious if mouth/jaw opening is causing corresponded with erratic breathing - resulting in awakenings at night. However I'm somewhat confused looking at OSCAR data (perhaps because I'm too sleepy! hehe :? ). Any interpretation or help/guidance would be very welcome :) zooming in on the data, it would seem that leaks are closely related to changes to breathing flow, including flat lines.

I've recently tried switching off EPR (it was at 3) which I think has helped a little, but still awakenings are still occurring.

I was thinking about purchasing the KnightsBridge Chin Strap or Cervical Collar to see if it may help, but not sure.

Any tips or advice welcome! Thanks :-)

unfortunately, the attachment feature no longer works on the forum, so alas we can't see your oscar pics!

what you'll need to do is find an image hosting site like imgur.com post the chart(s) there then link to them here. if you have any questions about that, feel free to ask.

good luck!

good job getting the oscar charts up! well done.

unfortunately, i may have some bad news for you.

"The AirSense 10 CPAP and Elite are fixed-pressure machines, so they deliver continuous air pressure throughout the night. The AutoSet and AutoSet for Her are APAP models that automatically adjust air pressure levels according to the user's breathing patterns."

were you prescribed this machine? did you get it through insurance? i say this because there aren't a lot of adjustments you can do with a fixed pressure machine. i'm hoping you are ina position where you can trade this in and get an autoset machine so that you can adjust pressures.

Today I added an excellent statement by Dog Slobber to my signature:
Good advice is compromised by missing data
Please post full nights' images and organize the charts as recommended by the very top post on this forum.

Also, please explain what made you switch pressure from 7.2 to 5 and back.

You're using a fixed pressure machine. What are any of the settings based on?

I have been having this problem since return of my phillips dream staion now have resmed and concerned may still have a problem never had a problem with prior 2 machine were also phillps and no issues I started feeling like all my cells were vibrating started figured it was anxiety but then got shocked removing mask it would stop everytime i would remove my mask didn’t make the connection until I got shocked and it doesn’t seem to happen unless there’s moisture buildup I even disconnected from my house electric and begin connecting to a Eco flow to see if it was something happening in my outlet connected to the house, and I still have the same problem

welcome! you would be well served to start your own thread. it's hard for us cotton tops to keep track of who's who in one thread.

good luck!
