Raised AHI after swimming solved

Post by Eddi » Mon Mar 28, 2022 5:24 am

Hi everyone-i started to use a nose clamp when swimming. I no longer have a raised AHI issue. I had not realized that I was getting a bunged up nose until one night it was really bad and I awoke suffocating. I guess it is the chlorine etc in. the pool.

I also have lost a deal of weight and the my F30 mask was no longer fittin g properly, no matter how tight I pulled the sftaps. Air was blowing i my eyes.

I went back to a Dreamwear Full Face. It didn't used to do me well but now is so comfortable and I can use the cushions which was not able to before.

Thru simple perseverance I have trained myself to sleep on my side. It was very painful for a couple of weeks but now it is comfortable.

I am sleeping fro 9hrs a night, o nly waking once to pee.

My AHI averages 0.5 and I got my EF fraction from <40 to 53% tho it could be higher now. My BP is normal. My pulse is till too low and am waiting for the results of last 48hr cardiac tape.

Kind regards

Very good. You may know that swimmers and cyclists need to do regular weight-bearing exercises to build bone density/prevent bone deterioration.

OK, of course, I didn't know you had that challenge. Yes, you need individual advice from your medical professionals who are familiar with your case.

Strangely enough, the topic came up when we saw the respiratory medic the other day. John has a special band thing which he is supposed to use but hasn't been and as he got this during the period I was very ill, I had no knowledge of it. To cut it short, she not only told him he needs to use as he as ost muscle, but suggested I use it too for the reasons you mentioned. Haven't done so yet but will and will see how it affects me. I am stubborn and I am also lucky enough to have a talent for disassociation which is how I manage.

What does this mean?

BTW, your swimming routine shows you have a strong will.

Sorry for the very late answer, Disacciation is when when , in the face of trauma, 'switches' off. It is a survival mechanism learned in childhood. It isn't necessarily a good thing in adulthood however in my case it enables me to remove my consciousness away from my physical pain but not so much I am unaware of life going on around me.
Life has been very full this last few moth, surgery, then infection hence not seeing this until, now.
