The thing to remember in that situation, is that the machine is still purely driven by your breathing, and if you don't inhale, it won't do anything. Sometimes perceptions are important.GrumpyHere wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 8:55 pmThanks for clarifying.palerider wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 1:51 pmA better way to say that is that setting trigger higher will make the machine more sensitive to the start of your inhalation, and trigger the switch to IPAP with less inspiratory effort, the transition happens at the same speed though.
Again, it has nothing to do with speed. Changing cycle is something that's in there for people with lung diseases, that have *physical* trouble exhaling, so you want the machine to help them more.
When I had the two settings on "very high", the timing of the extra help made the breathing feel pushed and rushed. Hence the caution about the perception of control when changing the sensitivity.

When you breathe through your mouth, is it because your nose is stuffed up? If yes, do you know why?
I'm wondering whether there's any chance you could switch to a nasal pillow mask. It'd be less likely to slip and slide around. You might need to tape your lips or use a cervical collar to keep your mouth closed and your jaw up, but a lot of people do those things successfully. But if you'd be simply unable to breathe through your nose during the night, then of course it's no go, unless you can find a way to un-stuff your nose.

I don't know why but I catch myself mouth and nasal breathing. Wintertime my nose is congested 80%. Summer it rarely is.
Years ago with that first machine--I tried nasal pillows. They felt great. But I would awake mid sleep with mouth open and the Sahara syndrome. Tried a chin strap and detested it.
I'm ordering the respironics f30i mask. I can grab a nasal device as well--been wanting to try the mouth tape.
Re: I need hand holding
you may want to try a firm foam cervical collar. can be found at your local drugstore or online at amazon.Bigcatdaddy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 11:16 am

I couldn't manage without tape. I also use Zonker's Scunci method to keep the tape functioning even when it would otherwise loosen. (I cut out ear holes in a broad Scunci headband than position it across my taped mouth and use a couple of bobby pins in back to keep it in place.)
