Don't have insurance and the F&P Eson 2 headgear falls apart.
Particularly the thin side straps always stretch themselves to death.
Most people (prolly something like ~999,999 out of a million) have insurance.
So they just get new headgear from the insurance company.
But I have to make my own headgear.
See attached photo of the old headgear and the mcgyver headgear.
[EDIT: I can't get the photo to upload into the web site even after trying multiple times so I uploaded it to here also.]

It's ugly. But it works.
And it never wears out.
Which is what's important.
Advice requested from those who also make their own DIY headgear.
Probably one person out of a million needs to source their own gear - but are you that one person?
No haters please... if you don't have anything nice to say, don't tell me it's hokey:jerryrigged:mcgyverish because I know that.
If you've never made your own headgear, you probably won't know how to help though.
Lots of times it's good to know how to source DIY parts from Home Depot or from Costco.
But maybe you've made your own headgear perhaps and can suggest better alternatives?
That's all I ask for out of this thread.
Better alternatives to DIY parts.
In this case, the headstrap came from Costco and the side straps came from the local bike repair shop.
A. The headgear is a strap from a Costco LED headlight (comes in packages of three).
B. The sidestraps are cut from a bicycle tube.
C. The clips for the sidestraps are cannibalized from the old decrepit headgear.[/list]
Over time, the headband loosens but it has built-in adjustment sliders.
The side straps never need adjustment after the initial fit as they're a single piece of rubber each.
While the headband and side straps are mandatory, I added an optional two-inch rubber tie.
It goes from the middle back of the headband to the middle of the two side straps.
This makes putting on the headgear easy as everything is a single piece so to speak.
It all stays together.
The donning process is the same as with decent headgear.
1. You put the head strap on first
2. Usually one side strap is already clipped onto the frame (if not, connect it)
3. Then you clip on the second side strap to the frame
Any DIY ideas for improvements?
What would be nice are adjustable side straps with cloth so that they breathe better.
The rubber tire tube strips get a bit sweaty in the hot summer days as it doesn't wick moisture.
Easy to clean though.
Your pictures of the DIY headgear you have made will be useful to me and to others.
There may be others out there who don't have insurance and who have to make their own headgear like I have to.
Haters gonna hate so if you've never made headgear and if you hate that others do, then please don't respond unless you can provide helpful hints to others.

I don't hate you for working out a solution to a problem you seem to have.
In fact I am going to congratulate you on your resourcefulness.
I do understand headgear problems of various sorts...that's why the mask I use doesn't use any headgear at all and I never have to worry about it.
I really don't care whatever it is that people do so that they can make a success of using the cpap machine.
I applaud them instead for finding solutions to problems.

This sounds like an item for the "Lab Rat Awards".
Numerous hats, caps, etc. have been modified to serve as headgear.
I used a biker bandanna; and during chemo, a beanie.
Some have used a trucker cap--with or without the bill.
Velcro is miraculous.

I wonder if an elegant headgear could not be fashioned from some non stretch fabric. Could you just replace the velcro on the regular headgear to make it work better?
These are just thoughts about how to solve this. It looks like you solved it for yourself but wouldn't it be wonderful to offer solutions to other struggling people?
