Not enough flush with F20 ??
Not enough flush with F20 ??
I've been a CPAP user for 20+ years.
With a setting of 13.5 I've recently changed to a full-face mask, and have tried several.
I'm currently finding that I have a good seal with my F20, but am wondering if the mask is bypassing enough air to expel the CO2 without my re-breathing the stale air. I don't feel short-of-breath. HOWEVER, since using the F20 I've found myself feeling light-headed or faint-ish during the day. I'm wondering if that could be caused by the F20 not having enough by-pass. I feel almost nothing coming out of the snap-on coupling where it's obvious that should occur.
... comments?

The math has been done.
There is more than adequate carbon dioxide outflow.
Your symptoms sound like ANXIETY.
There is no factual basis for what you believe.
Please consider seeing a psychiatrist.
Fear can kill you faster that the thing you fear.

Please see a medical doctor before waiting for a psychiatrist (I know they're also MDs). Anything could be going on from anemia to ??? and assuming anxiety or Cpap related ?? is not a great idea.
Re: Not enough flush with F20 ??
The F20 actually has diffused venting so it won't be a very noticeable vented air stream but it is enough to clear out the carbon dioxide we exhale. Lots and lots of testing went into the design.
It doesn't take as much venting as we might think to clear out the CO2.
I doubt that your unwanted daytime symptoms are related to carbon dioxide especially if they aren't only happening immediately upon awakening. Even if the CO2 was a bit high it should stabilize and return to levels that wouldn't create a problem fairly quickly after waking up. It shouldn't last long at all IMHO.
Since there are other health conditions that could also be a factor I would suggest that you give your doctor a call about what you are experiencing.

Re: Not enough flush with F20 ??
Thank you for the replies. I have discussed this with my doctor, and have undergone a couple of tests, and more are contemplated. But I've had the nagging question I've posted.
Again, thanks!

Hypoxia brought on by inadequate venting would not have lasting effects all day.
The reason you don't "feel" a lot of venting is because it is heavily diffused.

Maybe an oximeter could shed some light on the problem--
Or reveal the real problem . . .

OP could try the older F20/30 non "quiet air" elbow. See if it makes a difference.

Re: Not enough flush with F20 ??
Indeed, this might be the answer.
The noise of rushing air can reassure the patient, ruling out other problems.
