Cpap mask over mouth and nose
Cpap mask over mouth and nose
Just switched from pillows to the AirFit F20 Full Face CPAP Mask by ResMed. I’ve been noticing that the air I exhale feels like it gets stuck in the face mask and is not expelled. The result makes me feel like I’m rebreathing the air I just expelled. For sure there is warm air trapped in the mask which become uncomfortable as the night wear on. Any one else experiencing this and has a solution?

Re: Cpap mask over mouth and nose
All full face masks are vented to remove carbon dioxide.
A mask liner (like Pad a Cheek) can increase comfort.
Why are you switching to a less comfortable mask?

1. There are tiny vent holes on the circular part of the elbow. These vent exhaled air. Check to make sure they are not blocked.
2. What are your pressure settings? Higher pressures carry heat away more quickly. (I'm NOT suggesting your pressures need raising for this purpose.)
3. What is your ambient room temperature?
4. What is your humidifier setting?
5. What is your heated hose setting?
If you are sensitive to the heat buildup under this mask, you might want to consider a FFM with a smaller footprint. The ResMed AirFit F30i is a good option - https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... -face-mask.

Re: Cpap mask over mouth and nose
You cannot feel the air being expelled F20 from the F20 mask. If you hold your hand real close to the elbow, you can detect a slight difference in temperature as you inhale and exhale. The cooler the hose temp is set, the more pronounced the difference. It will feel warmer as you exhale and then feel slightly cooler when you inhale. ayou will not feel any air flow, but you can feel the slight temperature difference. I used the F20 for at least three years before changing to my current mask.

I feel that way when the humidifier temperature is too warm. The warm air makes me feel claustrophobic. But just put your hand up to the vent--you can feel and hear it being expelled.
