Hi all, I haven't looked in depth into the threads out there so somebody may have already addressed this topic (very likely, but I just wanted to get it posted). I'll look more in depth after posting.
I've had a CPAP for about two years now.
Love it, but lately I've had this issue with puffy eyes, and my eyes feel itchy all day long (pretty much). I've not changed how I sleep at all, I just put on the CPAP every night, fill it up with distilled water, and go to sleep.
I've got the Resmed Airsense 10 by the way.
I have always slept on my side, either left or right (never on back because I lose seal when my jaw relaxes), and I suspected maybe I have a leak in the face mask (I've got the full mouth and nose cover) I've been assiduous at cleaning my hose and facegear ever since I first got the CPAP but I went ahead and installed a new hose and facepad, and still itchy eyes.
So then I went out and bought a wedge pillow to elevate my back and head so that I could try sleeping on my back for once. Still scratchy/itchy eyes.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Les
Scratchy/puffy eyes
Re: Scratchy/puffy eyes
Add a simple eye mask to protect your eyes from the exhaust flow from the mask bouncing off your bedcovers or pillows and back towards the eyes.
If an eye mask doesn't help with the dry, itchy eye problem, you may want to see your eye doctor. You could be developing a condition where your eyes no longer make enough natural tears to keep them well hydrated at night. Artificial tear eyedrops are supposed to help with that problem. But you could also have other eye problems. It grosses me out, but I occasionally sleep with one or both of my eyes not fully shut (according to my eye doctor) and that triggers really severe dry eyes and it can aggravate another eye problem that I have with a cornea dystrophy that involves painful micro tears that do heal.
So get your eyes checked out if self-help measures of an eye mask and/or artificial tear eyedrops don't help.

Any chance it could be allergies? I've found that as I age my body reacts differently than it used to to allergies. Some mornings I wake up and look in the mirror and wonder who the hell is that! 10 mins later I'm back to my handsome self.

Re: Scratchy/puffy eyes
I have to use a silicone eye mask to protect my eyes. It has been a life-saver for me. I highly recommend Eye Seals 4.0. It comes in clear or opaque options, so you can either seal through it if you need to get up during the night (they do not recommend it, but I always did without issue) or opaque for darkness.
