Can't Adjust

Post by MenaceToSociety » Mon Dec 26, 2022 7:17 pm

I keep waking up gasping for air while using my CPAP machine. I started using my machine a few weeks ago and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I currently have the AirSense 10 Series machine, with a full face mask and my setting I believe is 5 or 6. I also have horrible allergies and breath through my mouth. I am at such a loss and just want to sleep.

You came to the right place for help.

A few tips- stick to this thread to make it your own so folks can follow your journey. Read some of the sticky notes for topics that you might need help with.

Add your mask and machine to your profile so that you can get help with mask fit and settings. And see if you can get an sd card and reader capability so you can get help dialing in your settings.

Welcome.

We’d love to do what we can to help. Could you check your pressure settings and let us know what they are? Just press and hold the home button and the round knob at the same time for a few seconds. Then you’ll see the clinical settings option. Select that and tell us what you see for your maximum and minimum pressures and your EPR.

I just added my mask and machine to my profile. My machine has the capabilities for the card and reader but my CPAP is supplied through my local VA and they told me they do not have the capability to support the sd card. Anytime I have an appointment I was told I have to bring my machine in.

The SD card is for you to use should you choose to manage things on your own with the help of others here.

If you’re hoping for other types of help there are many here who can help with the transition.

Without an sd card you will have to ask the VA to help you manage your settings, which is limiting.

Don't worry about the VA and don't worry about putting an SD card in your cpap.
afaik most VA's don't check hours of use unless and until you go in to see that special cpap person.

Use the SD card so you can check how you are doing at home each morning - with the help of the fine folks here on this forum. Each VA is a bit different and I don't know what part of the world you are in but please know you need to help yourself - I've not had good luck with the VA but now they just leave me alone which is fine with me.

Read and learn here - you will be much better off.

If you don't have a copy of your sleep study get one.
If you don't have a copy of your script for your cpap mask, machine, and equipment get one.

I’m located in Michigan. They seem pretty helpful so far.
I will look into the sd card stuff for my machine and reading the data. I do have a copy of all that information!

Your machine gives you lots of data on the Sleep Report screen if the function is turned on in your settings area. The setting called ESSENTIALS must be set to PLUS.

Many people feel air-starved at 5. I don't know whether that's your problem, but it could be. How would you feel about changing your minimum to 7 and turning on EPR to 3 (if it isn't already on at that level)? You can't hurt yourself by doing that, and it might help with your problem.

Follow LSAT's suggestion for sure and let us know your AHI and the breakdown (total AHI, AI, CI). Be sure the report period is one day. (The default is one month, as I recall.)
