C-Flex and mouth breathing

Post by Fred » Tue Mar 22, 2005 4:56 pm

I have been on CPAP for 3 years now. Last fall, after a second sleep study, my pressure was increased. Since then, I have developed into a mouth breather. It started off as an occasional problem, but now it seems to be nearly every night. I am thinking it is the increased pressure, and I am wondering if a C-Flex machine might solve the problem.

Has anyone been in this situation and tried going to C-Flex to solve it?

Since C-flex drops the pressure only on exhalation, I think you're still going to be facing the same problem because of the higher pressure going blowing in on inhalation. But I really dunno.

I have the Respironics Remstar Auto with C-Flex. I've used other brands of autos that did not have C-Flex. C-Flex made no difference in alleviating my problem of mouth breathing, as well as leaking air out between my lips even when mouth is closed has persisted. I have to tape my lips shut with adhesive tape to prevent it - that's the only way I can use any of my favorite masks. Otherwise, I'd have to be using a full face mask all the time.
