nose "tickles" with F20 mask??

Post by Oday03274 » Mon Aug 29, 2022 1:47 am

Yesterday I got a Resmed F20 over the nose full face mask. The fit for me is far better than the F30i I was trying to use, no nose holes to not line up, no problems not sealing around my floppy long nose etc...problem is the F20 makes my nose and other parts of my face under the mask tickle/itch like someone has a feather and is messing with me. This in turn has me reaching under the mask to scratch which is some cases I remember and some I don't but it's plainly obvious on the data plots that I have multiple instances of large leaks and obvious sleep disruptions as a result. So, has anyone else experienced this? And, does anyone have a suggestion for how to remedy it or even why they think it is happening? I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the F20 seems to have far less venting than the F30i and Dreamweaver causing a noticeably higher level of humidity in the mask after exhale and maybe the cycling of wetting and drying of my skin is the cause?
I look forward to your responses!
Patrick

Trim your noise hair. All the air blowing around in there causes movement, which your brain interprets as "there's a bug in my nose" and makes it itch so that you'll scratch and dislodge the bug that it thinks is trying to crawl in those nice warm holes.

common complaint.

I have found that if I put my mask on a few minutes before bed, I get the itchies but I can scratch them out and desensitize myself a bit before putting it on for the night. Then if I get up for a trip to the bathroom, if I pull it down, I get the itchies again. Putting it on ahead of time before hooking the hose back on has been helpful even though it doesnt completely alleviate the problem. I can def see how getting a good seal and keeping it there all night provides the greatest benefit though.

And.....as someone who has actually HAD a bug in their nose at bedtime (earwig) it can be pretty unnerving.

Had exactly that last night. Got up and trimmed some nose hairs and tried again. I try to make a conscious effort to make sure everything is trimmed before I go to bed.

OMG!
I think about this happening and check all the nooks and crannies of my mask before putting it on.

The earwigs love water and I don't even put the water bin in until I am ready to lay down. Same with the hose (just in case).

I hate those danged things!

I forgot about that crazy NJ humidity. Hits you like a ton of bricks when you get off the plane.
Sure makes it green and beautiful though.

I used to live on the island of Okinawa, now a Japanese prefecture. Whenever we flew there, we'd take one step off the plane and as my mom used to say--it feels like your underpants exploded. That was the sudden hit of humidity and heat, after 16 or so hours on a cold airplane, especially in the days when girls and women (by military mandate, no less) wore dresses or skirts.

Oday03274 Try this--it sometimes works: Take a dry washcloth and rub your nose vigorously before putting your mask on. That may attenuate the sensation enough to avoid the tickling sensation.

Ill give it a shot...it happens all night though so I'm not sure it's the whole night answer. Just now I cut a half circle of heavy paper and put it in the top half of the air intake coupler so the air hits my mouth an not my mouth directly, hopefully everything together adds up to a good enough type situation!

Keep us posted, just be certain that the exhalation ports aren't blocked.
