Need help regarding SD Card Data.
Hi.
I'm using a ResMed S9 Series (Escape) Cpap machine. I have just, for the first time started to look into the SD card. The thing is that no matter what I try the DATALOG is always empty. Everything else looks fine when I read the card. Just the Data folder is always empty.
I've run out of ideas & hope someone here can be of help. As it is, I can't use the card to retrieve the information I need to monitor my therapy & adjust my CPAP machine accordingly.
Regards & Stay Safe.

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
Unfortunately the problem lays with your machine itself.
The S9 Escape model doesn't collect any data beyond hours of use so OSCAR isn't compatible with it because there are no data files to go in that DATALOG folder.
That's why it is always empty.
That model machine simply isn't a full data machine.
Now the S9 Elite or AutoSet...those are full data machines and thus compatible with OSCAR.
So sorry. You machine doesn't record any data for OSCAR to show you.

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
I most sincerely thank you ever, so much for your help regarding this matter now it makes some sense. As to why ResMed would even use or have a slot in this machine makes no sense to me at all. I mean, why have an SD card in the first place if it doesn't collect any information for the user to use? Just one of those things I guess that makes no sense in life. I'm just out of luck on this one.Pugsy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 11:02 amUnfortunately the problem lays with your machine itself.

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
It does record hours of use and ResMed puts out a software that can be used to see the hours of use. OSCAR can't work with it but the ResMed software can.wildbill404 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 11:09 amAs to why ResMed would even use or have a slot in this machine makes no sense to me at all. Hours of use can be needed by some people to prove they are using the machine....like people who just get a new cpap and insurance wants to know if they are using it as directed before paying for it.
Or maybe an over the road truck driver who has to prove that the machine is being used as it is supposed to be used per DOT requirements.
The reason that DMEs dispense this model machine....it's the cheapest for them wholesale and since insurance pays by HCPCS billing code and all cpap/apap machines use the same code and pay the same amount no matter if full data or compliance usage data only....they make more money. Manufacturers continue to make this model machine because DMEs request it....again because of the bottom line profit margin.
Example....if you were a DME only interested in your profit margin what would you dispense??
The Escape model that might cost you 200 bucks wholesale or the full data model which might cost you 400 bucks wholesale and insurance pays you 800 bucks no matter which model????
I don't know what the wholesale cost it or how much insurance pays but you get the idea here.
Machine manufacturers do NOT think of the end user....us the patients...as their actual customers.
Instead they think of DMEs and doctors as their customers and who they bend over backwards to please. It sure isn't us.

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
It makes sense to ResMed because all the machines within the S9 series, AS10-AC10 series, the 11 series are physically identical.wildbill404 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 11:09 amAs to why ResMed would even use or have a slot in this machine makes no sense to me at all. What differs is the firmware driving each model.
They get economy of scale on the hardware and higher profits on the programming of the more specialized models.

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
Regarding the firmware. Is there any way of upgrading or changing it, to say an Escape Auto or a higher S9 model? Or douse ResMed use a rewritable chipset in their system (as is used in a PC for say the Bios). I'm well aware that firmware can be updated or changed in most machines with chips & drivers (programs).
If not with ResMed machines in the S9 modles or any for that matter. I just wish that this fact that the S9 Escape did not record any useful information in the first place I would have gotten one that did.
Again I extend my gratitude to all of you for your kind help in the matter.
I wish you all the very best.

Technically yes ....
BUT the required firmware aren't readily available. Sorry.
There was one attempt to convert the AS10 into ventilators for COVID. The Airbreak project fizzled out but definitely confirmed that the only difference being the firmware.

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
Contact your doc who may not be aware of this - have your doc order an autoset - Make & model specific - No Substitutions. DME will take this one back and give you what was ordered.wildbill404 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 11:09 amI mean, why have an SD card in the first place if it doesn't collect any information for the user to use? Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
There lies, the problem regarding my situation at this time. I live in a small town in central Ontario Canada., as well my doctor retired last May of this year hence no doctor nor any good outlook on getting one for many years. To that, I have no means of transport, I'm 67 years old & in extremly bad heath to boot. But when it comes down to it these are things I am used to dealing with & as they say " whatever doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger" or something like that. ON ward & upward.
Thanks All Once More For Your Kind Input.

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
Well, I got my ResMed S9 Escape-Auto & guess what? Yup, your right, it does the same dame thing. No information goes into the DATALOG File. So I blow over $800.00 & I'm back to square 1. In the Description of the S9 Escape-Auto, clearly states " the SD card collects therapy data so you can adjust your treatment".
I'm hoping I can exchange the one I just got for an S9 AutoStart. Time will tell.
The name of the place is " Secondwind.com" has anyone heard of it?

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
There is some limited data available on the LCD screen on the machine of the S9 Escape Auto..
Did you know about that? There isn't going to be any detailed data files to use OSCAR with but you do have AHI available even though a generic AHI and no event category breakdown.
But if a really low AHI then it might not be critical to know the exact category breakdown.
Do you know about the sleep report available on the LCD screen? The default setting is for it to show hours of use but there is an expanded (sort of) sleep report where AHI can be seen.
The clinical manual explains how to get to the clinical setup menu and make the change so you can see AHI on the machine itself.
You can go here and request the clinical/provider manual if you don't know what I am talking about.
The manual will explain it.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
Or the short version might be enough

Re: Need help regarding SD Card Data.
The OP just spent $800 (Canadian dollars, I assume) which is pretty close to USD$849 price for a Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet at secondwincpap.com Maybe they will let you return your machine and get the AS10 AutoSet. Never hurts to ask.
