Pugsy,
Lady beetles really are horrible. They overtake everything.
There’s a picture of the two side-by-side partway down this page and some other descriptive differences.
I don’t know if you have stink bugs where you’re at but it’s one of those things that if you want to squash them like little bugs you have to grab them up quick and get them going otherwise they will have a yellow Mark everywhere you squish them.

Re: Stuff of nightmares
Yeah, I see the comparison now but I haven't seen any "ladybugs" yet at least where I live for me to try to figure out if it's a real lady bug or a lady beetle.
I normally don't go squishing what I always thought were "ladybugs" to find out if they stink or not because I always left them alone but on occasion one gets stepped on by accident. Never noticed any bad smell but that doesn't mean much...didn't make any effort to see if it smelled bad.
The plan is to look a lot more closely the next time I see whatever it is that I see around here.
Though from my gut...I am thinking that what I see are ladybugs...the nice ones.
But it has been a while and I could be remembering wrong but next time I see one....I will try to get it to hold still long enough for me to give it a good look at. I do have a garden...and flowers as well...so eventually I will spot one.
I am always on the look out for bugs eating either my garden or my flowers.
Right now I am battling big black ants trying to feast on my ears of corn. Little SOBs.

Re: Stuff of nightmares
Our home literally looks like something out of a Hitchcock movie in the fall.
It used to be elder bugs.
It gets really old when you find about 1000 of them in your house over the course of the winter time.
Let’s hope yours are the good ones.
With regards to the earwigs, when I started finding them in the coffee maker I was getting pretty ticked off. Now I check every time I make coffee and moved maker to another part of the house. Let’s just say they taste terrible. So I was especially nonplussed when it was crawling around trying to get in my nose.
-shudder-
