Need a recommendation

Post by Sidsand » Fri Mar 04, 2022 9:31 am

I have a ResMed F30 mask. It was great for about 3 weeks. I have cleaned it as recommended, changed out the parts as required, but now I get about 1 hour to 2 hours of use out of it before taking it off and giving up. I have a hard time going to sleep and eventually go to sleep but wake up with leaks. Years ago I had a full face mask and it never worked for me. Talked to the doctor and we've adjusted humidity, but still no change. Is there another mask out there for us mouth breathers that works?

They all work...but every mask does not work for every face. It's trial and error.

Have you tried a mask liner? (Padacheek.com)
Quiets the leaky squeakies, and extends cushion life.
Since it worked for 3 weeks, the problem may be cleaning.
Too little or too much either way can mess it up.
Never soak the cushion; try wiping it with an unscented baby wipe.
--nightly if needed.
If you prefer "cpap wipes," write "CPAP" on the package with a Sharpie,
and keep the change.

First, find the F30 on youtube and watch a few videos on fitting and adjusting.

Second, if you don't make progress with that, go to https://www.cpap.com/plp/full-face-cpap-mask/ZT0yNjU and study some of the most popular FFM options.

Do you have an idea about what is causing your leaks?

Here are some general tips about avoiding leaks.
These features are generally not useful in reducing mask leaks.

Both features lower the pressure on exhale. So, everything else being equal, you would have less leak on exhale. But you still have the same amount of leak on inhale, so have you really solved the problem?

To reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video and other videos on youtube.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video and other videos on youtube.)

- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.

- Start a thread in cpaptalk asking for help. Subject: Need Help with Mask xxxxxx

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.

Note: Links to just some of the mask manufacturers' instructional videos can be found on the forum host's website - https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks.php and https://www.youtube.com/

Any chance you have an auto? IF so after you go to sleep and the pressure increases and your straps aren't adjusted for the pressure?

FFM masks have more sealing area so are harder to seal than a nasal mask or nasal pillows.

You can also try using the "Mask Fit" function on your cpap each nite before bed.

I'll give it a try. Had no idea I could check the mask fit.

Lucky you!
Resmed machines have that function.
No idea if others do.

Tried the Respironics DreamWear FF with headgear - didn't work, had to really tighten up the straps and it was loud on the exhale. Sent it back today.
I am testing the mask fit and that seems to help with my original mask. Actually got 4 hours usage !
