So I know I have been breathing through my mouth lately because my mouth is very dry when I wake up and sometimes I will wake in the middle of the night from opening my mouth. My machine has shown zero leakage throughout this. I tightened my chin strap last night because of the mouth breathing and I feel so much better and have so much more energy. I feel great. My mouth is also not nearly as dry nor are my eyes. Is it normal for my machine to show no leakage but for me to breathe through my mouth throughout the night? I found this odd. Thanks!

Mouth breathing but no leakage...
Re: Mouth breathing but no leakage...
Just because we might be mouth breathing doesn't always mean a massive exodus of air out the mouth to show up as a really big leak but it doesn't take much mouth breathing to dry out the mouth.
Some time back I happened to wake up and I was mouth breathing. Nice slow gentle mouth breathing (mouth was a bit dry as well) and I decided to just continue that level of breathing so I could see exactly what kind of leak would show up on the leak graphs. So I continued for about 15 to 20 minutes until I had to go ahead and get out bed.
Screen shot below of that mouth breathing...circled in red at the end of the night.
As you can tell the amount of leak reported was actually tiny in the grand scheme of things.
This is why I tell people who are mouth breathing to evaluate the leak graphs before worrying about what to do about it if they are sleeping through it.
Mouth breathing doesn't always equal a massive therapy treatment impacting leak.
Depending on the person mouth breathing may or may not cause significant dry mouth.
Before worrying about fixing a problem....make sure it is a real problem first because sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.
Don't ask me what happened earlier in the night...don't know slept through it...probably mask movement but I really don't care since I slept through it.

Sleep is still the number 1 priority.
Not always perfect; but it's what we need.
