Delay in getting Replacements for Resmed CPAP

Post by happybreather » Sat Feb 05, 2022 9:20 am

Has anyone had any experience in getting replacements for ResMed CPAP machines from DME's? Am I looking at a month, 2 months, 3 months, etc? I realize that the ongoing Phillips recall is impacting ResMed machine availability.

The wait time on my Resmed AirSense 11 machine was four weeks. But my replacement parts come quickly: I order on Monday, for instance, and the hose/mask/filters/whatever arrives on Wednesday.

However, Kaiser Permanente is my insurance provider. They have a special contract with DME Apria. And it seems that large providers, like Kaiser, have less trouble getting access to Resmed goods than little people like us.

There are some dealers that have not received any machines from ResMed in months. Ever since Philips recalled 4 million machines, there has been a big demand for Resmed machines. That, and the problems with getting parts and shipping have resulted in long delays. Most dealers have waiting lists for machines.

I suspect that previous orders for Resmed products have some influence
on current supplies. Those dealers who concentrated on other brands
(to enhance their bottom line) may be assigned lower priority with Resmed
Fair is fair. I would do the same thing.
Karma is a hard pill to swallow.

As a further data point, I live within 100 miles of Buckaroo, and my insurance (Anthem BC) also use Apria.

I was initially told 3 weeks, then waited three months before giving up and ordering out-of-pocket from CPAP.com.

Wow. May I ask when you ordered your machine? Mine was ordered in mid-November 2021 and it arrived in mid-December.

When I did my six month check with the sleep clinic, the nurse practitioner said she had recently talked to the Resmed representative about the availability of machines. According to him, there were many machines awaiting off loading from the ships. They are like everything else that is made over seas and tied up in the backlog of ships waiting off shore.

I was diagnosed in September 2021.

Apria contacted me October 6, told me they had my machine in stock locally and charged my credit card for the first payment. Never heard from them again. I called once a month and they always said "sometime soon". When I received my machine from CPAP.com (mid-January, 4 days after ordering) I canceled my Apria order.

Actually, that sounds about right.

Apria was - at least in November and December - very scattered about the AirSense 11 Autoset machine orders. For instance, when I called to check on my delivery date about 12/15/21 because I hadn't heard anything, they claimed they didn't know anything at all about my APAP order. Nothing. They didn't know if it had shipped. They didn't know when it would ship or even if it would ship. They knew nothing. And then, lo and behold, a few days later I found the package in our university mailroom waiting for me. It seems they had already shipped - and our mailroom had already received - my machine when I called Apria to confirm. So, they were not exactly in their collective right mind.

And things must have been much worse at Apria when you ordered yours at the beginning of October.

Bet a lot of people had the same issue.
