Sleeping with my CPAP

Post by Benedetta » Sat Sep 25, 2021 12:52 pm

Last night I actually fell asleep with my CPAP on and when I woke up, my machine said that I slept for 2 hours and 5 minutes! 😃
I know this doesn’t seem like a long time, but for me, it was a big accomplishment, cuz I was scared to fall asleep with it on.

Eventually, you will be scared to fall asleep with it off.

Well done! And now you don’t have to be afraid to fall asleep any more.

Was part of the reason you were afraid just how weird the experience is? If so, you might try speeding up your adjustment to it by setting the machine up outside your bedroom during the day or evening and using it while you read or watch TV.

Congrats! I vagally remember when I finally slept with my mask on. You need to build on it and your goal should be all night. Your body is fighting you back, but it will eventually give in and you'll be able to sleep all night! Keep it up! You got this!

I am a big believer in the power of the mind over the body. In the very beginning, I told myself "PAP will improve your health. This is GOOD for you. PAP is your friend. you WILL succeed. Just do it." That probably sounds naive, but I literally talked to myself (when alone) and repeated the mantra over and over. Eventually, the mantra becomes internalized and is a part of you. I do not mean to insult you or your problem, but this may be a strategy worth your consideration. Sounds kind dumb, but it worked for me.
