I checked my air filters in my pap today, and WOW they were practically black. If you are in an area where you receive smoke, even if it's from far away wildfires, you will likely need to change them way more frequently.
Just a heads up.

In Nebraska, hundreds of miles away from the nearest burn,
my last filter looks like I got my money's worth.
If it gets much darker, I may go from the current 3 weeks to two.
I may even pull out some of the good PPE masks I bought on clearance
Don't forget there's no shame in masking up.

With respect to chunkyfrog and others, my healthcare provider (Kaiser) and Medicare both recommend changing the Airsense 10 filter twice a month -- every two weeks. Filters are cheap enough that chaiging frequently is not expensive and makes the machine's working load much lighter.

As usual, manufacturer's recommendations assume "normal" conditions.
I would consider the wildfires a bit beyond that.
The extreme smoke, along with asthma, may call for more frequent filter changes.
You know what is YOUR best action--follow your own common sense.

I guess I am lucky. I changed mine a couple days ago at the 30 day reminder.
I could tell the difference between the old one and the new one, but I had to look close.
I am in San Diego and apparently not close enough to any fires to be affected this time.

Your healthcare provider is full of crap. The Resmed clinical manual says to change the filter every
six months or 'as needed', which varies from bedroom to bedroom.
Saying twice a month is just another ploy to get gullible people to spend more money at the DMEs

I'll remind people of discussions from last fire season where people were taking N95 (or N100 if you can find them) masks and taping the whole mask over the intake area, by using the whole mask, you've got a *much much* larger surface area on the mask, so you won't be appreciably stressing the machine, and there's lots of area to filter out as much of the smoke as can be done.

Sorry, palerider, but at 3 weeks, my filters look gray,
and I have to be proactive about my allergies.
It's no fun sneezing forty times in a row.

That's not a problem, and not against what I said, gray filters after 3 weeks certainly falls into the "as needed" part of the instructions

Resmed manual says:
"Check the air filter and replace it at least every six months. Replace it more often if there are any
holes or blockages by dirt or dust.
The "at least" part is important.

Well, I'd say the "
Replace it more often if there are any holes or blockages by dirt or dust." is the more important part

If you do it on the 1st of the month or pay day or some other significant day of your life. Makes it easy to rememeber.
