Oscar question
On the left sidebar in Oscar under statistics, it has a list of things and shows values for Min, Med, 95% and Max. What exactly is the meaning of Med and 95%?

Re: Oscar question
Median is literally the "middle of the pack" value.
It is not skewed by a small fraction of extremely large or small values unlike "the average".
So it is a better "typical" value.
The 95th percentile number means that 95% of the time other values are LOWER than this number.
It is only exceeded 5% of the time.

Re: Oscar question
No it doesn't. it means that 95% of the numbers collected are at or below that number..GrumpyHere wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 3:27 amMedian is literally the "middle of the pack" value.

Again, it means that 5% of the numbers are at or above that number.
It's a meaningless number, except for statisticians.
A good explanation of the significance (or lack thereof) of these statistics is here:

Re: Oscar question
While PR is technically correct -- medians and percentiles are actually referring to collections of numbers -- the numbers (measurements) are reported at regular time intervals, so it's not wrong to think of those numbers as representing time.
The "max" column is mis-labeled for ResMed machines. It is actually the 99.5 percentile, not the max. The column heading is fixed in the next release of OSCAR.

Re: Oscar question
Thanks, BlueDragon! Can these numbers be used to help choose a person's best min & max pressure settings? Or how are they used?BlueDragon wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 8:27 amWhile PR is technically correct -- medians and percentiles are actually referring to collections of numbers -- the numbers (measurements) are reported at regular time intervals, so it's not wrong to think of those numbers as representing time.

Re: Oscar question
Yes, the median etc. pressures, in conjunction with observation of the various graphs, can be used to help select an initial minimum pressure. It is not just the numbers alone that matter; other factors contribute to pressure needs and adjusting them may change pressure needs. Yes, I know that does not give you a cookbook answer. The best thing to do is to post an OSCAR Daily screenshot and ask for advice.
It is often not necessary to be concerned about maximum pressure. It's usually ok just to set the max pressure to 20. The machine will raise the pressure only as much as it needs to. However, there are situations where setting a lower maximum pressure is useful -- pressure intolerance, events that aren't going to be solved by any amount of pressure although the machine still tries, aerophagia, other comfort issues, etc.
