Switched machines and sleeping less hours

Post by tbeb » Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:46 am

I used a Dreamstation Auto with humidifier and heated hose for 7 months. I stopped using it (due to Phillips recall) and have been using a Resmed S9 Autoset with humidifier and heated hose for 2 weeks. With the Dreamstation I sleep about 8 hours per night. With the S9 I sleep about 6 1/2 hours. Settings on S9 are the same as Dreamstation, except I changed the minimum pressure from 7 to 10 a few days ago. 7 was best when I started cpap, but now I fall asleep just as fast on 10. Average nightly pressure with both machines is about 13.5. Average nightly AHI with Dreamstation is about 3.4. With the S9 it's been under 1.0 more times than 1.0 to 2.0. All numbers were read from the machine's screen. (Since using the S9 I feel tired when sitting around but feel fine when doing something.)

With lower AHI wouldn't it make sense that your sleep would be better and you would need less of it?

Everything is theory until you post some charts.

I don't know if lower AHI means less sleep is needed. I do know that before I went on cpap I felt much better with 8 hours sleep.
