Anything New Since 2001?
A big Aloha to everyone on this forum! I would like information on any new developments in the treatment of sleep apnea since 2001 when I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. At that time, I was prescribed the usual treatment of CPAP therapy. I was unresponsive to that treatment and graduated to BIPAP as an alternative. During the eight months that I tried both of these modalities at various pressure settings, I also experimented with different mask options, three different half masks, full face mask and the Adams Circuit. After eight months of PAP therapy and a prescription where the dosage was increased three times, I was still falling asleep at the wheel in the face of oncoming traffic. At that point, I gave up on this sleep apnea treatment and went back to drinking caffeine and smoking cigarettes and have not fallen asleep at the wheel since. Unfortunately, this has taken a toll on my health and I have now developed Afib. Have there been any new medical advances in the treatment of sleep apnea in the last 20 years or is there nothing new to try? I would like to get better sleep, if possible, and at the same time eliminate a contributing factor in regard to the Afib. Thank you in advance for your helpful comments!
