2 weeks on cpap mixed results

Post by cnikirk » Wed Jan 10, 2007 10:22 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and to cpap. I have been using the Remstar M series with nasal pillows for the last two weeks.

Overall I feel better(I think), but some mornings I wake up and feel exhausted. I'm not sure if I have leaks or not. I like to sleep on my side, but it feels like the nasal pillows are pulling to one side a little bit.

I don't have any software to read the numbers, so I'm not sure how to tell if I have a leak or not.

I guess I'm just looking for tips, or advice. I have no trouble falling asleep and if left uninterrupted I will sleep for 10 hours or so.

Am I expecting too much too soon?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

You should be able to tell if you've got a leak by hearing it, or feeling the air blowing on your face.

Are you waking up with a dry mouth? If so, you might be mouth breathing. If you're mouth breathing your cpap therapy isn't working.
Read the Collective Wisdom section above or search the forum for advice on that.

I use the Swift II nasal pillows, and you can't have them too tight, or they won't work properly ie. they'll leak.

Definitely, you need to be patient and give yourself plenty of time to get used to cpap, but also definitely dig in here and get the answers you need, so you're not suffering needlessly.

Good luck,

Peter.

Ok, this morning I woke up with an extremely dry mouth and felt exhausted. The wife said I didn't snore, but I bet I am mouth breathing.

I will try and tape up the next several days.

Thanks

I felt really tired at first too but the RT told me that it was because I was finally getting delta sleep which is deeper and so even though you wake up tired you are really more rested and will feel better during the day. I do notice I have more energy so not sure if that is what is happening. Hang in there and good luck.

It can take a long time to really feel the effects of treatment. Not everyone feels great from day 1. Some take months, some only notice small improvements during the year. Everyone is different. But if you post specific problems we can help and you'll feel better sooner.

Stopping mouthleaks is the #1 problem, without solving that treatment won't work.

Not all "M"agics, support software, if you have one that does by all means get the software and reader. Besides Taping, you may need a FF mask as a back-up plan. Jim
