Working on improving leak rate

Post by cmaustin » Thu May 13, 2021 6:22 am

Hello All,
I had been using a Vitera Full Face mask and my leak rate was way too high I was advised. I just got the DreamWear Full Face and I like it a lot better once I figured it out. I still have some problems with leaks forming when I try and sleep on my side which is my preferred position. I have 30 days to try another mask but maybe I should stick with the DreamWear. My machine now gives me a green smiley face for leaking, that is a big change for me.

I attached last nights data from Oscar and I was curious if you all think I should try another mask or is this "good enough." Other mask recommendations?

Thanks!!!

I'm surprised you had a problem with the Vitera. I used it for a couple months and found that in my case it was completely leak free. I currently use the Simplus which is very similar to the Vitera...in fact, the Vitera came out as an upgrade to the Simplus. Are you sure you are using the right size? I am sized between M and L. I use the M. Aside from leaks, your chart looks good.

For anyone interested...a bit of history available from Jason's forum.

As to Mr Smiley showing up for leak management with the above night.
You have to understand that Mr Frowny doesn't show up until you spend 30% or more of the night in large leak. Below 30% of the night Mr Smiley shows up.
According to the statistics...26% of the night in large leak.

As to whether or not you think this is "good enough"...that's up to you but it's not like this is a random rare bad night. You are consistently having leaks that are pretty bad. This is more of a "good" night for you and it's not all that great.

So..... important questions....how is your sleep quality? Are the leaks causing wake ups? How do you feel during the day?

Thank you all for your help. I've been working with EasyBreathe (they have been great) to try different masks. I first tried the DreamWear Full Face but that didn't improve my leaking. I then tried the AirFit F30 Full Face and that has been a lot better. Please see screen shot below. I noticed I'm hitting my max pressure of 13 quite a bit. Do you all think I should increase my max to say 14? Also, I'm about to try the AirFit F30i since the straps on the F30 hit my ears in a bad spot. I'll let you know how that goes.
Thanks!

Regarding sleep quality; it's much improved. We the latest mask I don't get woken up by the leaks like I use to. So that is good. I use to have to nap everyday, that has stopped. A very good sign. I'm still tired but not like before. If I can keep leaks low like above and get seven hours of sleep, I will be VERY happy.
