Sleep is a problem

Post by nawchem » Sat May 22, 2021 11:54 pm

My sleep has not been refreshing. I spoke several times to my sleep coach who told me things are going great. I wondered if any of these numbers reflect something going on? I started having long periods of insomnia, which I don't usually have and they seem be preceded by periods of my flow rate flat lining. I'm not clear on how the terms directly relate to my sleep quality, and am concerned that it seems like a lot of events.

Sleep time 8 hrs, 4 min, AHI 0.41
Breathing not detected 1 event (117)
Periodic breathing 1 event (110)
Clear airway 2 events - flow rate flat lined on both
flow limitation 7 events
1 hypopnea event
1 obstructive event
Pressure pulses 22 events
Variable breathing 16 events longest lasting 602 seconds

Thanks! I don't know Linex but if you need pictures I'll have to learn.

What is your AHI? And pressure settings?

Download Oscar and post results in this thread for interpretation and advice.

Insomnia...whatever the reason...will cause us to have non restorative sleep. We don't get good quality sleep and often not enough real sleep.
The number of events you are having really isn't all that great. I doubt that airway issues are the cause of your insomnia.
Maybe time to take inventory of other possible causes of insomnia (either sleep onset insomnia or sleep maintenance insomnia).
First culprit we look at...medication side effects....are you taking any meds of any kind? If so, what?
Second culprit we look at...any other physical or mental health conditions going on that might impact sleep???

I take medication for hypothyroidism and advair and singulair for asthma. I have UARS so my OS obstructions are an index of 6 but when they count the awakenings I got up to RDI of 15 and my awakenings keep me from getting stage 3 and 4 sleep. When they added awakenings to the equation I finally didn't have to pay for my cpap.

I'm glad the machine is functioning well. I have spent the last 2 nights in a hotel, slept straight through the night with nearly half the non-obstructive events, plus I feel great. My general practitioner who knows nothing about my sleep data thinks my environment is not suitable due to hairspray and perfume use of 7 other ladies. I've had to wash the cpap in the middle of the night because of the hair spray smell. I had a swollen nose, painful, sinuses many asthma attacks and exhaustion that I no longer have at the hotel.

Affordable housing is not in great availability. I hate to think I will leave to live in my car temporarily. But there are places I can plug in overnight, I've always liked camping.

Thank you for looking at the data!

Nawchem, that hotel stay is really telling you something, isn't it! I'm so sorry your sleep environment is wrong for you, and I hope you'll find a way to get better sleep without living in your car. Very best of luck to you.

Thanks Miss Emerita,

with the whole state still closed it doesn't matter where I sleep as long as it's healthy.
