Sleep study and titration results questions

Post by enuzat » Thu Apr 29, 2021 6:50 pm

I had a sleep study that determined I have moderate sleep apnea. I had 144 arousals 133 of those were apneas.

The night of my titration I had 230 arousals only 5 were apneas.

I am confused as to what could have cause an additional 100ish arousals.

welcome to the zoo!

unless you post the results for folks to see, there is no way to know. that study is yours legally at least in the united states.

if you have a copy, post it. if you don't, get a copy and post it.

otherwise, it's sheer guesswork.

good luck!

2 kinds of arousals.

Respiratory related arousals...airway related like from hypneas or apneas or flow limitations.

Spontaneous arousals...means we don't know the cause but it wasn't airway related. Wouldn't be unusual to have a lot of spontaneous arousals the night of the titration study just because of all the newness of wearing a mask and using cpap and being in a foreign sleep setting.

I am posting results from both studies.

Side note: I was being tested for narcolepsy and discovered I have sleep apnea by surprise.

I am being fitted for a mask tomorrow, so I don't have any equipment yet.

The first study says I took Klonopin before arriving for my study; I didn't and do not take that, the technician and I misunderstood each other, but that was cleared up already.

Zero RERAs on both studies so that means pretty much all arousals were spontaneous.
Not unusual for there to be more spontaneous arousals during the titration study just from the sensory issues with first time wearing a mask and using the machine.
RERAs are Respiratory event related arousals.
Any number of things could be causing spontaneous arousals and we don't have any way to know what it might have been.
