OT: Medicare Part G Coverage

Post by Sheriff Buford » Sun Jan 31, 2021 9:27 am

You folks that have part G coverage. Medicare states that after satisfying the part B yearly deductible, Medicare will require me to pay 20% of CPAP supplies. Does the part G plan pay the 20%?

Thanks in advance,

Sheriff

Did you mean a Plan G Medicare Supplement?

After you satisfy the annual Part B deductible Medicare pays 80% of the approved amount and you are supposed to pay 20% and the Plan G Medicare supplement will pay the 20% for you.

Thanks... I go on Medicare in March. After careful research, I decided the Original Medicare was best for me. I have dealt with an HMO for over 20 years, which is close to the advantage plans. The advantage plan would be ok if I was fairly healthy, but my health is going south and even my HMO is picking and choosing what they will cover and what they won't. I would rather pay more to see my personal doctor and not deal with referrals. I have dealt with Crapria, and they seem to not want my business, so there is a small mom and pop DME close by and I'm checking them out.

Plan G supplement would likely serve your needs well.

You have to pay the annual deductible for part B covered expenses and your supplement monthly premiums...and pretty much the supplement will take care of your portion of any covered expenses.

Remember that any supplemental coverage is always going to be tied to if Medicare approves the expense. If Medicare disallows it...the supplement won't pay anything either.

Always make sure you use providers that accept Medicare assignment which means they are happy with what Medicare approves. That way you won't/can't be charged for any amounts above what Medicare might approve.
Be sure to learn what Medicare will allow and it won't allow. Medicare doesn't pay for everything.

The other reason not to choose an Advantage plan is that CPAP machines are on perpetual rental, so you pay a co-payment forever.

Remember, competitive bidding may still limit where you can buy supplies that Medicare will pay for. But IMHO, paying out of pocket for the occasional supply is worth not having to deal with Crapria.
