New member-need help with oscar

Post by kensmith57 » Wed Nov 04, 2020 9:43 pm

Hello everyone.
I little info on me. I'm 63, overweight, a side sleeper and a mouth breather. I've been on cpap for a little over a month and I feel like a completely different person. Before I started I would sleep for 7- 9hrs per night and be tired all day. I found myself falling asleep while talking to people. When I first started I was only sleeping around 4hrs a night but I was wide awake all day long. The last few nights I've been able to sleep for over 6hrs and feel great.
I'm hoping someone can look at my chart and see if there are any tweaks I can make to improve my results.
Thanks for the help.

It's hard to draw conclusions on one night. How similar are the different nights?

If it were me I'd set the minimum cost to 13, that's about where your machine consists the low side of treatment for you to be.

Let that be for several days to see what happens.

Then I would suggest reducing or eliminating a- or c-flex (whichever you are using). That might help with the snoring that is still happening.

One change at a time is best, and since you are new i wouldn't remove exhaust relief first (the flex thing) though I have a feeling that will be more useful.

If you are comfortable you could try the flex change first ... the machine corrects for pressure on its own ... it just has to figure it out each night.

Thanks for the help.
Here is the night before. Does this help any or do you need more?
You said to try setting the minimum cost to 13. Pardon my stupidity but what is cost?

Most likely an auto correct "spelling correction" because what was meant was minimum cm pressure to 13.
Either that or he had one of my famous brain farts where I type something that wasn't in my head at all.
Auto correct is a real PITA on phones so might have been on his phone when typing.

He meant set your minimum pressure to 13 cm because the machine pretty much goes up there fairly quickly and stays there most of the night.
The minimum pressure is your most critical setting. It does the bulk of the work of holding the airway open.

Now that said...you are very new to therapy and going to 13 straight away probably won't be very pleasant so I would suggest continue to use the ramp feature and maybe go up in small increments if you need to. Like maybe try 10 cm for a few nights and watch your reports and if you still need a little more you can go up in small stages.

All those snores you see...that's the airway collapsing somewhat. Now they aren't growing up to be full grown apnea events but they point to slightly sub optimal therapy.

The Nov 2 report. Pretty much useless except to point to a serious issue with leak management.

Thanks for the help. I changed min pressure to 10 and had no problem with the pressure. I included the last 3 nights.
It seems that with starting at a higher pressure it has helped with the leaks.
I'm not sleeping as long but I wake up feeling good. I wonder if it's because I'm sleeping better.

yup, it's quite possible. once we start sleeping better, we don't need as much as we once did. not true for everyone, but for most.

Yes, had to make a bathroom run then got distracted for a while before going back to sleep
