New guy with day/night shift question

Post by FlyingLow » Fri Oct 02, 2020 9:40 am

I searched but could not find an answer to this question. I'm starting a new job soon and will work 7 days of day shift and 7 off. Then 7 days of night shift and 7 off. My concern is losing compliance days on the first and last days of night shift. I have to have 75% with 6 hours average for the year (FAA requirement). Anyone work a schedule similar to this? Other than changing the clock/day changeover time, any other advice?

Whether you worked day shift, night shift or were off, I assume you would still sleep sometime during each 24 hours.

No need to worry, as long as you only sleep with the cpap,
and enough total hours in each 24 hour period--noon to noon.
Split nights will add together, and you should be all right.

Just to confirm, it'll add up all the hours in a 24 hour period for compliance, even if you sleep from 9am to 4pm, the 4 hours from the afternoon will get added to the 3 the next morning, for a total of 7. The hours don't have to be consecutive.
