Long time user, looking for suggestions for new hardware

Post by JohnDFW!! » Mon Jul 20, 2020 7:19 pm

Hello All,

I’ve been using the same CPAP machine since 2007.

ResMed Elite S8
HumidAire 3i humidifier
Swift II nasal pillow

It has been a good machine but it’s time for something newer.

I’ve met my maximum out of pocket for the year for my insurance plan. So, this will be a free unit for me.

I know it would be easier to make recommendations if I stated what I am looking for but after reading a few posts I can tell the technology has changed dramatically in the last 7 years.

I do know I need a humidifier and I believe it’s called EPR, for easier expiration. Also need the unit to be pretty quiet. I’ve run mine in the top drawer of my night stand with the drawer closed as far as possible for years.

I realize this a very broad question. I would not mind at all if you just posted the name of a unit with a couple of words why you like it and I can research it myself. I always appreciate first hand knowledge.

Thanks

Resmed airsense autoset 10 for her is the way to go. You'll get all the features you want and great data capability. The 'for her' model includes an extra setting that helps some people. It's very poorly named in that regard. It's helped many a male as well.

Thanks khauser. I like the ResMed product line. I've been using a borrowed Phillips for about 6 months. Like my old Elite S8 much better.

I do have a copy of my prescription but the few DME sellers I've talked with also want the notes from my sleep studies. I called the doctors office who conducted the study several years ago and was told they destroyed the records after 5 years. I may have to complete a sleep study in order to get a new machine. Not real happy about that.

Changed health care providers and had to get a new test to get a new machine

Is this the same insurance carrier that bought you the first machine? If it is...they already have a copy of all the sleep study records in their files and you might check with them to see if they require another sleep study.
Talk to you insurance company directly. Don't rely on the DME to say "your insurance said so and so"...
