Cracked Resmed S9 - Impaired Functionality?

Post by koopas » Tue Jul 07, 2020 11:29 am

Hi all,

First time poster but long time Resmed S9 user. For the experts out there, would you be able to tell me if the shown crack to the machine’s body has any impact on machine function? (in particular as it relates to air leakage out of the case). A whole chunk of the corner is chipped off and I can stick a screwdriver into the cavity through the hole created. I’ve been impressed by the S9’s durability but may have abused my poor machine a bit too much...

Also, is Resmed planning on updating its S10 model anytime soon? I’ve been using the same S9 for many years and would hold off on picking up the S10 if a newer model was lurking around the corner.

Thanks for your feedback

The crack itself is not going to be a leak. The air passage within should be sealed from intake through to the hose.

Now, whatever happened could also have caused hidden damage, and than might leak...

Plug it in--watch for sparks, odd noises or smoke.
If it is fried, get an Airsense 10 Autoset for her.
Future changes may not necessarily be improvements--from the user's point of view.

That crack will only be a problem if it compromises the air pathway.

Turn it on:
  • if air blows out, then the path after the blower is compromised
  • hold a tissue near the crack and see if it is drawn towards the crack. If it is, the path before the blower is compromised.
When testing, you may want to temporarily block the air in/out vents to more easily determine if there is air movement through the crack.

If there is airflow through the hole, you will need to plug it as it will affect your therapy or let unfiltered air into your machine.

I would check the software reports and look for anything out of the ordinary and if I didn't see anything I would use some of that handy man's secret weapon and tape that hole up. Open it will allow dust particles to get inside and potentially gum up the innards.

The case is just cosmetic, there's an internal air chamber inside, as long as that is not breached, it'll be fine.

Just keep your screwdriver out of it.

Here, you can see the inner air chamber, inside the outer case.
