Severe dry throat , any recommendations

Post by Paulinewada » Wed Jul 08, 2020 7:15 am

Hello ,

Just wondering if anyone else experienced a severe dry throat after using the full face mask ? Does anyone recommend changing the mask to avoid this issue . I’m currently using Philips DreamStation Automatic CPAP Machine with Humidifier and the ResMed AirTouch™ F20 Starter Kit - Mask System and 2 Foam Cushions.

Dry mouth or dry throat is either from medication side effects or mouth breathing.
Changing masks won't fix it. You have to stop the mouth breathing (assuming your problem isn't medication side effects) to reduce or eliminate the dry mouth.

You might try increasing the humidity setting on your machine and see if that helps or not but it might not depending on how much mouth breathing you are doing. The humidifier wasn't designed to hydrate the oral cavity....it was designed to hydrate the nasal cavity which is much smaller.

Dry mouth is a common complaint even with full face mask users and they just sometimes have to add some sort of oral hydrating product to their routine to avoid it.

welcome to the zoo! as pugsy mentioned, an oral hydration method. (she's fancy like that!)

i would recommend xylimelts. this is a wee lozenge that rests between teeth and cheek. it slowly dissolves overnight promoting saliva production. there is a bit of tackiness on one side to help keep it in place.

otc and i've found it for sure in riteaid and cvs. works a treat for me.

btw, i have this issue and don't use a full face mask.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
