More Low Pressure Still?

Post by trevor51590 » Wed Jun 17, 2020 5:37 pm

Good evening! This board has been a wealth of knowledge, and I appreciate all of the insight you have provided. I am still fine tuning my machine, and below is last night's report. I'm wondering if I need to try a higher low pressure to knock out those hypopneas. My original RX was 6-8cm and this is with a minimum of 7. I noticed as I got closer to waking up, I'd get to a very light stage of sleep where I'd notice air rushing out of my mouth, at which I'd close it and fall back asleep, and so on. I've seen the tip of the tongue technique, as well as the painters tape; I'd really like to try and avoid the tape if possible but I'm not opposed to it.

Opinions?

I would take the min to 8 for a few days and see what happens to the AHI....You may need to go to 9.

Below is at 8 minimum; I found that I started swallowing a lot of air as I woke up in the middle of the night feeling very bloated and not so great. Is this something that generally folks can work through, or not? I may try the wisp mask the hospital sent me home with

Thanks!

That's called aerophagia, and it is fairly common with increases in pressure. People do often work through it, but another approach is to back the pressure down to 7.5 and see how that goes. If it is comfortable for a couple of nights, then venture back up to 8. In other words, smaller increases spread out over time sometimes help to avoid the bloat and discomfort.

The wisp mask seemed to help, or I’m slowly acclimating to the machine and pressure. Haven’t gotten a readout from OSCAR but I hit an AHI of 2.6 last night. I felt great today!

So I've found that the wisp nose mask produces much better results I'm not sure why, but I find that I don't have a tendency to open my mouth as much at night with it. I've since increased pressure slightly to see if it helped, and I've achieved my best night to date last night. Why would I be getting better results with one mask over another? Thanks!

because you are you and i am i. i wouldn't get good results on your mask. you wouldn't get good results on mine.

we each have a different facial structure. apparently, the wisp mask snugs in well enough that you don't have to open your mouth to breathe.

OR it's the increase in pressure. we won't know because you did both at once.

btw, how do feel after your sleeping? well rested? so on and so forth.

So I have tried a few nights with the n30i before going back to the wisp at the increased pressure, I just didn't get great results. Last night was the best night sleep I've gotten in a long time

most excellent!

i'd say stay the course and see how she plays out. maybe come back in after a few days with an update.

Your Max pressure is at 12, is there any reason for that?

If not then set your max pressure to the maximum, 20 and wear your Wisp for 2 weeks.
Then set your max pressure to 19 and wear your N30i for 2 weeks.

OSCAR will track your therapy, and create a natural break in the statistics logging because of the prescription change.

This way you can actually compare the difference with more statistical significance, to see if there actually is a trend.

If the difference is significant, wear the one that has a better AHI. If the difference is not significant, wear the most comfortable one. If there is no real difference in AHI or comfort, wear the one that makes you look hotter.
