Changing mask?

Post by jfox9913 » Wed Apr 08, 2020 2:45 pm

I would like to try a different band of mask/headgear. Is that something a DME can do without a new prescription or sleep study? They have changed the length of my tubing and width of nasal pillow in the past without a new prescription. I was thinking that since I get a new complete mask/headgear kit every 6-months, that would be a good time to change (as opposed to one of the months that I just get nasal pillows and filters). I don't know if anyone here has experience doing this, but let me know if you have. Thanks.

Just call them and tell them what you want, and NO you do not need a new rx.
If you don't know what you want, just go to cpap.com and take a look at all of the choices, there is also a section that will let you read others likes or dislikes. Cpap.com is the sponsor of this forum and a great place for help.
If you are getting new stuff from your DME every 6 months, you are getting overstocked. DMEs are famous for sending supplies to you on a regular basis, masks will sometimes last for a whole year... at least they do for me. Others will chime in soon and give you their ideas on what they use.
Welcome to the forum
Cheers ... and be safe.

If you are using your insurance to get the mask, tell your DME that you would like to try a different mask. If you are not using your insurance, I recommend you purchase from cpap.com. If purchasing a complete mask, a prescription is required. You can send them a copy of your current prescription, or ask your doctor to send them a copy of it. They offer free return insurance on their masks. If a mask doesn't work out for you, you can return it within thirty days for a refund. I have used them several times in the past when I wanted to try a new mask and didn't want to mess with my insurance.
