Still tierd dispite compliant treatment? Check your adrenals
The cause may be your adrenal glands and their myriad of functions.
After a year of compliance my husband is still unable to feel refreshed, his stress levels are out of control and he cannot work or even do anything for more then a couple hours. His moods are still all over the place and he still relies on me for most of his energy.
All of this begs the question, what else can be wrong?
So I have been researching the long term effects of undiagnosed (or untreated) sleep apnea and found a very interesting corellation to Adrenal Fatigue.
The jist of it is your adrenal glads make and control most of your hormones and are in charge of helping you cope and recover from stress.
It is a given that OSA causes your body stress upon each apneaic episode, it is your adrenal glad that wakes you up just before you die from lack of oxygen.
If you think about it, say you had untreated apnea for 5 to 10 years, waking up every three minutes every night...now your getting your sleep - but you may have already burnt out your adrenal gland.
I have come accross an awesome web site and book which goes into great detail about this problem, it's symptoms and the resolution. I felt I needed to share this becuase it is probably way more common in OSA patients then the rest of the population, and like OSA - only certain docs are familiar with it and treat it as a 'real' disease.
Please read the website, and if you think it sounds like you, order the book. It may be the best $25 bucks you ever spent, especially if you've been to your doc and he has said theres nothing to worry about dear, here have some more sleeping pills and a couple antidepressants...
www.adrenalfatigue.org
I have no affiliation with this web site, it's products or anything, I only came accross it trying to find help for my husband's continued apnea problems.
(And while reading it found that I suffer from adrenal fatigue as well, but I'm asthmatic so thats a whole other support forum...lol)
one other link I will post is for the site that allows you to order saliva tests. If you can't find a doctor to support you, you may need to get your own tests done and then take them to someone who can help.

again, i hold no affiliation with either of these sites.

did it help?
I'm assuming that since you're posting about this but have no affiliation to the site, that you found a solution to your husband's fatigue problem. Can you describe the treatment process for adrenal fatigue?

If you check the profile and look at some old posts, the poster looks fairly genuine, but I am not so sure about the site referenced. I think a lot of us hope that OSA explains all the troubles and xPAP will fix it and start grasping at straws if it doesn't. I must admit I haven't stopped looking at other "miracle fatigue cures" either.
Snake-oil like Fish-oil is good for you!
and Rattlesnake tastes just like Frog's Legs .... errr.. Chicken.
Derek, please don't be badmouthing Snake-oil until you have
tried it yourself for cooking some of the best omelettes around!

Yes this is a well known fact. Stress causes a rise in cortisol. Thats why you shouldn't exercise for longer than 45 minutes. After this time the body releases cortisol. physical stress , mental stress, doesn't matter. Its still stress.
read about it here. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drobson.htm
Mathurine, just find yourself a Dr. that specializes in anti aging medicine . They can get your hormones sorted out .
Save your money on the hormone tests. Go to the antiaging doc and get it done right for less $$$. Most are GPs so insurance will cover them. Mine is my family Doc. here is a link to his clinic.

You can learn alot on his site.

I saw an interesting post by Snoozin' about thyroid testing in a recent topic on TAS:

Chrisp - Your note on body builders and hormones actually helped me narrow things down a bit, it was helpful.
To the rest who think I'm selling something, that's fine by me, cause I'm not.
As for the treatment and diagnosis - the jist of it is that there are other 'hidden' things in your environment causing you stress, which (I think) exasperates your condition (in this case OSA). Could be chemicles, food, relationships etc. Treatment is as simple as identifying them and eliminating them while making sure you take your vitamins to support your particluar dificiencies.
Trick is these hidden stresses can be things you wouldn't even think of, and that's where i found this book to come in handy. it pointed at the common causes of these stresses in detail. (For example one big hidden stress that has been effecting us has been rancid oils. If i hadn't read up on it I never would have even guessed at that as a problem)
As for my husband's recovery, it is underway, but like apnea will take time to work itself through. I am just glad to have found out that not all things are cured by going on the machine and thought some of you may benefit from the things I had found.
By no means do i suggest that site is the only resource, it is just the one I came accross. I also don't suggest you order anything online until you have done your research and had a doc to help you out. But I am also painfully aware of the problems in the medical community by where a doc tells you there is nothing wrong, when it is simply that he/she is unaware of what is actually wrong. example: they told my husband to loose weight and stop eating so much for 5 years before finding the right doc who told him he had OSA.
on one final note - no where on that site does it mention a link to OSA, it has been by my own extensive research that i came accross it and correlated it to what is happening in my OSA pateint (my husband).
Start by researching the long term effects of sleep deprivation and see what you can expect after having osa untreated for a long time.
Maybe you don't have the same problems with stress and fatigue as he does.
In My Humble Opinion:
I do feel that in the next 5 years as research progresses that AF will become more recognizable. I think adrenal friendly diets, excercise and lifestyle changes will be a big part of treating diseases which cause bodily stress like OSA, epilespy and asthma.

Amazing how socialized medicine can induce a paradigm shift towards preventative medicine. Down here in the US, learning how not to get sick cuts into too many peoples pocketbook! That's why US doctors know nothing about nutrition, Exercise, food suplements or anything that promotes wellness....they don't even have a definition of wellness!
The anti aging Doc is in the USA. I think you read it backwards.
