possible to have lower AHIs with an ASV machine?

Post by CPAPSteve » Thu Feb 13, 2020 11:46 pm

For someone with simple borderline OSA would it be possible that switching from a AS10 for her to an aircurve 10 ASV make my AHI score lower?

My AHI's with my AS10 for her usually hover roughly around 0.2 - 1.0 but since I started using the ASV 2 weeks ago I've had many nights with an AHI of 0.0. 95% pressure as reported by the ASV unit coincides nearly perfectly with what the AS10 for her reports (around 11-14cm).

Makes me wonder if I even have OSA anymore.

The ASV smooths out the respirations so less irregularities to get flagged.
I had a lot of 0.0 nights when I was using ASV but they are rare when using apap or auto bilevel and my AHI will run between 0.2 to 2.0 with long term average around 1.5 but the bulk of my AHI is always SWJ because my sleep isn't so great because of tossing and turning from the pain.

Doesn't mean my OSA is gone though. Just means that when I use the machine the OSA doesn't pop up and bit me in the butt.
If I don't use the machine (like I nod off on the couch) the OSA is right there annoying me....most notably my snores return and I wake myself up from the snores and if the nap is very long I wake up feeling like crap with a painfully full bladder.

The ASV is great at treating both obstructive and central Apnoeas. Your not cured your machine is treating both symptoms successfully the ASV does not care what type of apnoea it is it uses Epap and pressure support to ensure you keep breathing

True that. The ASV is so neat. Honestly loving it.

I asked my sleep clinic if it would be prudent to do another sleep test after being treated for a year and a half and They said it likely isn’t necessary as the tech look at my pressure curves and said if I didn’t have OSA that the pressures wouldn’t be as high as they are. I have a decent relationship with the clinic And if I asked for a sleep test they’d likely just do it for me. Has anyone here ever used CPAP for years that mysteriously had their OSA go away without any changes to their body via weight loss or surgery?

Do you think they would still be active here if they had the miracle and their OSA just up and went away all on its own?
I know I sure wouldn't be hanging around here if that happened.
The normal progression is that as we age and things sag more...OSA worsens and not up and go away.

Miracles can happen but this particular miracle I haven't ever heard of it happening.
Now the weight reduction miracle and of course surgery...I have heard of that happening.

boo! oh well, that was super wishful thinking on my part. While I don't mind using CPAP that I thought that by an off chance that b/c I have numerous 0.0 AHI's and exceptionally low AHIs that *MAYBE* my OSA just disappeared.

Just your machine doing a good job and being set right for you.
