CPAP with Oxygen Causing Dry Mouth

Post by Onthebeach » Thu Jan 16, 2020 4:58 pm

I’ve been on CPAP with a humidifier successfully since 2015. I’ve recently had to add oxygen to the process. Now, I wake up several times a night where my mouth is completely dry. The humidifier chamber has plenty of water in it, and I keep my mouth sealed closed with sleep tape just as I did before adding the oxygen. I’d be grateful if anyone else has experienced this and has found a solution.

sorry this post has been here so long! i didn't see it before.

i don't use supplemental oxygen. some who does will be by shortly, i hope.

what i could recommend is xylimelts. this is a lozenge that promotes saliva and thus helps alleviate dry mouth. the lozenge is place in your mouth between teeth and cheek. it slowly melts overnight. this can be found in the oral health section of your drugstore.

works very well for me and may do the same for you.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Turn up the humidity setting a little.

Thank you, Palerider, I just ordered xylimelts. And, I have my humidifier on as high as it will go.

Does your Supplemental O2 machine have a humidification bubbler?
On my machine, not having a bubbler contributes to dry mouth.

on your supplementalO2 machine, do you have a bubbler installed. My experience indicates that O2 without a bubbler can contribute to a dry mouth.

+1 on the use of Xylimelts. They work great for me.

As a new user of supplemental oxygen, is it possible the provider neglected
to show you the humidity bottle on your oxygen tank/concentrator?
These nincompoops habitually hurry through the dispensary process with cpaps.
Maybe they skipped that step with your oxygen.

You say "there is plenty of water", do you mean at the end of the night? Please fill out your equipment profile so we know what we are dealing with, your humidifier may be defective.
