Hi everyone,
Sorry if I’m in the wrong forum, but I saw how helpful everyone is.
My sleep doctor told me she wanted a sleep study followed by a nap study. Well we completed my overnight but thy said I had to leave and wouldn’t do the nap study. I was told to wait u til the afternoon and follow up with my doc.
(History)
For the past 8 months my husband has complained I snore, move around a lot and stop breathing several times an hour at night waking him up when I start coughing or gagging (I have no memory of this). He took some videos and scheduled me an appointment and showed them to the doc. She flat out said I had apnea and wanted tests done. She told me she really needed 4 hours of sleep for good results.
(Present)
I called her office this afternoon and told them they didn’t do the nap study and I was afraid I did something wrong. I don’t think they were to tell me anything at her office but my results were back already (they said that’s really super fast) along with a note saying I slept 3.5 hours (more than usual) but that I refused to go to sleep...
I didn’t sleep but 3 hours the night before the study per my audio diary) soo I got hooked up at 9:40 done by 10:08, 7.5mg temazepam was what I took to help fall asleep at the request of my doc. I was dozy by 10:30 and then I was awake at 1am, zonked back out after Tossing for a bit and woke up at 3:30. Tossed some Moore and woke up at 4:52. They came in and got me out at 5:00.
I’m super stressed because I don’t know what to think. Her office has me scheduled to go over what they have friday 1/10/2020 at 8:45 am. I thought I got at least 4 hours because I actually felt like I slept more with the sleep aid but it obviously didn’t make me sleep enough. Is it possible to get good results or is it possible I’m going to be treated like another wasted lump. (Where we are women are treated awful and men get better treatment). I am pretty sure I have some form of insomnia but his videos are terribly frightening. I don’t know what to think.
Ty in advance for letting me vent my frustration.

Welcome to the forum.
It's very possible that enough data was obtained during the 3 to 3 1/2 hours that you were actually asleep.
It all depends on what sleep stages you made it through and the results. If you had enough events to confirm the diagnosis during 3 hours it wouldn't really change with 4 hours. The 4 hours might be more important if the data showed maybe a borderline diagnosis.
Take a deep breath and regroup.
The nap test...that's for narcolepsy and it is often cancelled after an in lab sleep study depending on what they find during the sleep study.

Ty for your prompt reply I have been super stressed and praying we find an answer. 8 months of 2-4 hours of sleep is bad (almost took out a phone pole with my car). Hubby keeps saying just relax and offered to go with for support. I’ll definitely update when we find out friday!

Re: Sleep study finished and lots more questions
Well she said with the little results I had there were no events. She’s not satisfied saying it was so fragmented I couldn’t have a good rhythm. With the video proof my husband showed her she even suggested I just go outright and buy the machine and she’ll do the cpap calibration test but I think that’s a little out of my budget right now instead of trying to get the insurance to pay a portion of it. So now she’s doing 6mg of lunesta (my pharmacist was seriously concerned) and having my husband keep an eye on me. Before a repeat sleep test She wants a full night along with mslt the next day.

'A little out of my budget'
About half the people who start Cpap give up in the 1st couple of months which makes for a substantial 'barely used' market. Plenty of barely used Resmed Autosets for sale in the $350 range.

Contact forum member LSAT. He usually has a good used machine or one coming.

You might also check your local craigslist or Facebook marketplace or similar for sale sites.
You just have to be careful and know your models.

First of all, the $700 price range is for a spanking new machine. The lower price is for a used (refurbished?) machine. If you get a used machine from a reliable supplier, it's been properly sterilized.
Second, the "nap" test. This sounds like the Narcolepsy test. I had this test back in 1999. They have you take twenty minute naps at two hour intervals. I did fall asleep "too soon" on one of the naps. However, they concluded that this was from the exhaustion of Sleep Apnea, not from Narcolepsy.
Since this is a test for Narcolepsy, they can diagnose (and treat) Sleep Apnea without doing this test. The problem is that if you do have Narcolepsy, you'll still feel tired.
