New to CPAP/Pressure Question
New to CPAP/Pressure Question
I am one week into using my CPAP machine and have found that as I am about to dose off to sleep after exhaling, I momentarily pause before inhaling and then wake up. Does my pressure need to be adjusted higher to keep the airway open? Currently at 8. I use a nasal pillow mask which is very comfortable. Or is this simply a mental thing that I need to overcome? I have always had a little anxiety and maybe that is all it is in this case. Thanks for any and all input.

when you get the chance, fill out your equipment profile. there are differences between machines and differences between masks. and so many combinations of the two!
also, see the "newbie" link in my sig for more info. eventually you'll want to download the free software program called oscar. this is also in my sig.
without any specific info other than what you've given, i'm going to guess yes to more pressure. i'm also guessing you are using a straight cpap machine with a fixed pressure. but won't know that until you tell us what setup you are running.
good luck!

Re: New to CPAP/Pressure Question
Have you been using your machine during the week you have had it?
If your problem is just at the start and you are able to use it anyway it is probably just mental.
A lot of people have trouble adjusting to therapy at the beginning.
The change to having a machine, hose and mask will make one more aware of one's breathing patterns.
It takes some time to get into the flow (so to speak).
I am sure others will have more thoughts.
Good luck.

Good idea to do as Zonker suggested.
Just as well start out right and join in.
These folks will get you in the right place with your cpap therapy.
