Can OSCAR Data Indicate Mouth Venting

Post by juicyc » Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:34 am

I'm curious if there any indication in OSCAR data of mouth venting? I am am waking up several times in the night with bursts of mouth venting. I am working on the tongue technique discussed in this forum but I wanted to see if there was a better way to detect these events using OSCAR data as opposed to my foggy memory of these events.

Much appreciated

Well, sometimes you can get a fuzzy idea if you go in and look at the breath shapes on the flow chart, and see that there appears to be much less exhale compared to inhale..... sometimes, but it's far from an exact thing, and open to much guesswork.

i leave it to my betters to speak of oscar data and mouth breathing. i'm here to suggest a way to keep your mouth closed and lips together.

have you considered a firm foam cervical collar? this will help keep your jaw up. i use this in conjunction with the following-

viewtopic/p1089718/viewtopic.php?f=1&t= ... s#p1086296

the method described at the link helps keep my lips together. i've modified jay's method somewhat, but it's basically the same as he describes.

the scunci's and the cervical collar has pretty much eliminated any mouth breathing issues i once had.

good luck!

I don't have much trouble with mouth leaks anymore, but I will still get one or two a night. I am more likely to be awakened by arthritis. I am cultivating the habit of hitting the stop button anytime I wake up. I have SmartStart or whatever it's called enabled, so the machine will restart immediately, but the brief interruption makes it easier for me to figure out what was going on the next day when i look at the data.
