CPAPmotor life expectancy

Post by john1449 » Sun Nov 10, 2019 11:35 pm

I imagine you know this but the life expectancy for a CPAP motor is from 20000 hours to as much as 50000 hours if well taken care of, mine is currently at 18888 hours and until the nurse told me I was not aware of a message

Just for prospective, 20000 hours of use equates to 2¼ years of continuous use or 6¾ years of use for eight hours per night.

Or 10,000 years of use for 2 hours per night.

Or half a dog year in Mars' orbit.

Never heard that one before and don't believe it for a second.
The "life expectancy" of the blower motor is..........what it is. They can go out (much) sooner or (much) later. The point is, if you don't already have one or more backup machines or spares, you'd better be getting one ASAP. It's like trying to drive for many miles on a set of tires without having a spare tire in the trunk. It's pushing your luck. You just never know when you may drag your machine off your nightstand and render it incapacitated. As inexpensive as many lightly-used machines are, it's a dumb way to do things.

Especially if you don't have a pencil or paper, a calculator, or basic math skills. That hours guess is faulty it doesn't start at 20,000 hours, it starts like all built things,(D.O.A.)..... The only way to be covered is to have one or more spares ready to take over. (One for Murphy and his friend too) Doing this seems to make the first one last longer.... Jim

There are many parts in a XPAP, or any machine that can fail. Be Prepared, or Not

And how would you take better care of your XPAP? Make your own electricity, use dry water in the HH to control spills, change filters nightly, I don't think so. How about not doing dumb things to it, and have backups. Jim

Long distance records aside, look for signs of mechanical deterioration, especially increased noise.
Never underestimate the value of spare/backup equipment.
The machine--(murphy knows when the DME is closed.)
Water chamber--(oops, dropped it)
Hose, mask, etc.--(that darn cat/dog/Martian)
