Resperonics REMStar Auto M Series - Service Required

Post by Maelstorm » Fri Nov 01, 2019 11:07 am

Every now and then, my CPAP machine goes into a Service Required mode where all the lights flash and the two-beep code is sounding. I have discovered that if I go into setup mode, then hit the power button to exit, everything is fine. Now, I am looking for the service manual for this machine. If I have the manual, I can repair the machine. Currently, I pulled the smartcard out and I'm waiting to see what it does but it seems that the behavior has changed which tells me that the smartcard is causing the problem.

I have been on CPAP for 15 years. My old machine, a REMstar Plus died because the bearings in the blower motor seized (26,000+ hours of blower time). My current machine I got second hand (emergency since I was out of town) has about 7,000 hours on it. I have recently completed a full sleep study with tritration and they confirm that my pressure setting is between 11 and 13 mmHg. My original prescription is 12 mmHg. The current machine is set to auto with 12 being the minimum.

One other thing. I think the machine needs a good cleaning, and I would like to take it apart and clean it, but I can't seem to get the machine and the humidifier apart. The two seem to be jammed together. I tried following the instructions but it will not disengage from the humidifier. Any suggestions?

I have the service manual for the M Series machines..........BUT..........
If you had the manual, you wouldn't be able to fix it.
You would also need a special cable and special software, which are no longer available. (and weren't available to users)

If the problem IS the smartcard, just get a new smartcard and try that first.

Either leave the card out or get a new one ( like from CPAP.COM ) and try those options first. Maybe the card is worn out or the contacts are dirty.
Have you been downloading the smartcard with the Mako/Infineer DT3500 card reader and Encore Pro software?

It would actually be MUCH less expensive to just buy a lightly used newer machine from some vendor like

Here's a PDF to the User Manual, no idea where to get a service manual.

I don't think a device manual will help. I don't know how old *your* machine is, but it is 2006 technology. Yours is starting to show signs of failing, replace it before it fails completely.

This is why everyone needs a spare--even a used model.

The M series is old enough that a replacement is indicated.
