cpap to bipap

Post by mlsrealty » Mon Oct 14, 2019 5:42 pm

So I have been a cpap user for about 2.5 years....thanks to this site, I have learned a lot.....from adjusting pressures, to chin straps, taping etc.....so in this time I have done fairly well, but my one last problem is, aerophagia....pretty much have it 85% of the time.....I have tried doing epr at max level, but still doesn't help very much....I don't want to lower pressure to much and compromise sleep, so i'm going to try a bipap machine.....downside is doc wants me to come in to doa titration study with one, which I really don't want to do...when I did my first sleep study, it sucked....are little facility is like sleeping in the worst motel 6....and then when you have to get up and go to the bathroom, etc, you guys know....not to mention they didn't tell me anything great....once I got my machine, i used this site for guidance and learning and of course my own experimentation......but the doc won't give me scrip without the sleep study, which sucks to waste a night of bad sleep and of course money...……

I would love to just purchase a machine and do my own thing, but not sure that's possible.....i have a new scrip for cpap machine, as i wanted to buy another one as a backup....thought about trying to submit that online and see if i can get away with the purchase of bipap machine...….just don't know how careful those sites are with the scrips.....

any thoughts...

Have you tried raising the head end of the bed on 5-6" blocks of some kind? It has helped some people... otherwise do a forum search for aerophagia and see what others have to say.

Technically the online websites selling machines are supposed to be careful with the scripts and a cpap/apap script isn't supposed to work for buying a bilevel machine but sometimes things slide by.

You might also check with forum member LSAT. Sometimes he has some gently used bilevel machines (usually the ResMed brand) that would be easy on the wallet. I am not sure if he has any right now but send him a PM and ask him. He had one last week but that one sold but he might be getting another one soon.

I've purchased two BiPAP machines from https://www.secondwindcpap.com/ and have not needed a script. They are used machines but have very low hours and can be obtained for $800 or less. I'd recommend the Resmed Aircurve V10 Auto.

Secondwind doesn't require any RX for any machine from international buyers outside the USA.

Now for people inside the USA like myself...when I asked Mark (owner of secondwind) if I needed a bilevel RX to get a bilevel machine shipped to me in Missouri...he said I needed a bilevel RX and a cpap RX wasn't good enough.
So that's the official version to CYA but in reality sometimes they will work with people in the US who don't have the proper script...or sometimes they just overlook the fact that when we order something from them and promise to send the RX by mail...and we don't follow through...no one really does anything about it after the fact.

Just wanted to say I bought a lightly used Vauto from LSAT, and everything went smooth as silk.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Well, that is a nuisance! I was going to place an order with a promo code (that has now expired) for a Vauto, but my Rx is for CPAP.

Ask your doctor to write you a prescription for a bi-level machine instead of the CPAP. As long as you are paying out of pocket, you don't need to justify why you need a bi-level instead of a CPAP. If you plan on using your insurance to purchase the machine, you must prove there is a need for the more expensive machine.

I might have better luck getting an Rx from an online doc ....

Search on Google for “online CPAP prescription”. I haven’t tried any of them - no recommendations implied.

You might be able to buy a BiLevel set in CPAP mode to match your prescription. Then change it yourself. Ring up the vendor and ask.
