Is it time for a new mask 5 months in?

Post by RPM1965 » Tue Oct 01, 2019 9:57 am

I have been using my cpap machine now for 5 months. Usually Im getting a good night sleep even with my automatic wake up at 3 in the morning. Im still feeling fresh through the day but as of late, I've noticed that my mask may have some areas where air is coming in and disrupting my sleep. Im waking up and still feeling like I need another two hours. My question is, are the masks pretty durable and after 5 or 6 months, is it time for a replacement..??

The Air Touch mask in your profile cannot be cleaned as well as others, because of the foam. It is recommended that the cushion be replaced after 30+ days. The mask itself should last a long time.

You are showing the AirTouch F20 in your profile....that's the FFM that uses the memory foam cushion and if that is indeed the mask you are using and you are still using the original memory foam cushion then yes....time for at least a new cushion.
The frame part of the mask will last forever with common sense care.
The head gear may or may not be getting tired but the memory foam cushion won't last nearly as long.
The memory foam breaks down and won't seal.
Insurance will normally allow one new cushion per month and that is the recommended time frame for replacement but people do report getting 2 or 3 months with it.

It may very well be time to replace part or all of the mask.

This depends on multiple factors, such as which mask, your pressure, your face. and the overall environment.

For instance, a mask will last longer in rural upstate New York than in downtown Beijing!

You want a spare of everything practical.
Murphy works weekends and overtime--when suppliers sleep.
