I miss having auto-start

Post by KingofPillows » Thu Aug 22, 2019 6:58 am

I’m on the fourth year of my 2nd machine (Remstar 560P)... and I wake up most mornings not having used it.

This will sound ridiculous, but—I think because my machine is not as easy to reach once I’m on my side— I will fall asleep without putting on the mask. I’m not the most disciplined at that point of drowsiness, obviously...

Assuming there’s no way to “mod” the 560p...
Is there a unit people would recommend that does do auto start?

None of the machines will "auto start" if you don't put the mask on first.
Obviously you need to put the mask on first...while sitting up in bed before you ever lay down.
You have allowed yourself to create a bad habit and bad habits are hard to break.

The 560 P does have an auto start feature available though...takes just a couple of strong breaths to start it but you have to turn on that feature in the clinical setup menu area.
Auto On...needs to be set to ON.....have you done that?

What good would it to for the machine to 'auto start' when you're not wearing the mask?

just wear your damn mask!

sorry, didn’t explain— I can put the mask on, it’s reaching the button that stops me—

didn’t realize I could control the option — thanks👍

OK

The option you're looking for is called SmartStart, turn it on.

Put the mask on and exhale into the mask a few times with a little force. It also turns the device off when you take the mask off and it detects nobody's there. Though many report the Auto-Off feature to be somewhat unreliable at low pressures and small nasal pillows.

I love the Auto-On don't care for the Auto-Off.

That's only for the ResMed machines...they call it SmartStart. OP might go looking for something he doesn't have.
OP has the 560 model and Respironics simply calls it Auto On...and give as choice for on or off.
I do wish they had come up with something better than Auto On and Auto Off for what SmartSense does...people just don't understand what it means and they don't read the manuals thoroughly.

Smart start lets me be just a little bit lazy.
After lining up all my ducks so I can sleep, it is a small blessing.
Getting old is a lot of work . . .

If you find it's still not starting (i.e. in a full face mask) put your finger over the vent and that will make it start. I always had that problem with a FF mask.

OTOH, to keep the auto-start from starting before I'm ready (when I'm still adjusting the headgear) in a nasal mask, I just keep my mouth open and breathe through my mouthuntil I'm ready for the machine to start. It starts easily in a nasal mask.
