hi, I'm traveling solo for the first time in a long time without family. I thought I'd try to do some odd Air BnBs in Utah Arizona since it's just me. I found a place to camp (in a tipi) but there is no power whatsoever. I'd love to sleep under the stars, but I am absolutely addicted to my CPAP. Been using my dreamstation for several years. Auto CPAP. Anyone have any ideas for a power source overnight? The travel CPAPs seem to be way too expensive to justify buying for one night of sleep. but I'll obviously just cancel this Air BNB reservation and get a place with a power outlet. LOL
thanks for your help! This forum really helped my wife years ago fix a problem.
Happy sleeping!

Re: CPAP - no power - ideas for power?
I live in an area with frequent power outages in summer due to thunderstorms/windstorms and I use a battery backup. Got it off amazon for like 150$ and after using it for a night it barely used 5% off the total power on the battery.
Re: CPAP - no power - ideas for power?
I only travel to accomodations with power.
If it's in a country other than your own, you will need to check the configuration of the sockets in the country(ies) to which you are traveling, and bring the appropriate adapters. Note also that some counties may use more than one type of socket, sometimes even in the same building. Ironically, the fact that the voltage and frequency might be different is a non-issue for CPAPs. Every CPAP on the market today will accept any voltage use anywhere in the world.

No need to cancel - for about $120 to $150 you can get a basic battery system that works for car (or tipi) camping and would also serve as a home backup for power failures. Read the link provided above (or in my signature) - about ten posts in is a description of my basic setup - a U1 AGM battery, a BatteryTender charger and a few cables and a simple box. Your DreamStation will need a DC cable ($25). The downside is that the battery weighs 24 pounds, but if that's too much there are options. The upside is that without humidity it will power your pump for about 5 nights, and charge a cell phone. With minimal humidity you would get 2 nights. Get back to us with some details - budget, charging schedule, etc so we can help you get the best match to your needs.KimandMike wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2019 6:32 pmhi, I'm traveling solo for the first time in a long time without family. reading through all of your guys' responses. thank you! In the meantime, just wanted to say that I only need one-night's worth of power/charge as I'll move to a town with a hotel with power.
So glad I asked this forum. still reading....

Re: CPAP - no power - ideas for power?
more details:
I just need one night's worth of charge. I'm flying from East Coast to Utah/Arizona, so I'm guessing batteries suggested above won't be allowed on a plane. but I could always have it delivered or picked up from amazon in Vegas or at a wal-mart, etc. I could also have the stuff sent to my friends' home in Vegas. I thankfully could afford even the super expensive batteries that the CPAP manufacturers sell too. But I'm mostly looking for a short-term, one-night cheap alternative. It may just not be a good option to do the DIY cheap version if I can't travel on a plane back home with it. (and what a waste!) Might just suck it up and sleep without it for just one night. It's been a few years since that's happened. So weird to go even one night.

Actually, the lead acid AGM batteries I describe can be carried on airplanes - its the lithium batteries that have restrictions, what with their annoying tendency to burst into flames. Since you're only using one night you could get the half size version, 20 AH. If you don't need humidity (this is Utah or Arizona?) you might even get by with 7 AH (~$20), or one of the small lithiums like Medtronic that are made for airline travel.KimandMike wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 5:13 pmmore details:
