GM to all,
I'm writing for my fiance who is a long time CPAP user (>20 years).
His current machine is a Res-Med Airsense10, and he is using a Fisher-Paykel nasal mask. He uses a nasal mask (not nasal pillow) and we have tried no less than 20 FFM's, but that's not happening, although we know he tends to leak through his mouth. We've tried taping, but that's just really not comfortable. He's using a climalite heated hose with humidity on 3 and a chin strap.
At his last sleep study (within the last 2 years) he was prescribed a setting of 17. Over the last 6 months, he has lost greater than 40Lbs. We've put the machine on auto with settings of 11-20, and using Sleepyhead, he seems to be hanging between 12.5-13.5 most of the time with AHI's consistently less than 3, most of the time less than 2. Leak continues to be a problem some nights, but I think that's something we're going to just have to deal with. Ober the last week, he had one night with 36% of the time in LL, but most of the time it's less than 10%. He generally feels rested.
Questions:
1. Res-Med describes it as an "auto-adjusting CPAP machine". Is that different than an auto-pap?
2. Is there any reason at all to not just leave the machine in auto-pap?
Thank you!!!
Auto-pap vs Auto-adjust CPAP
Re: Auto-pap vs Auto-adjust CPAP
Welcome to the forum.
There is no difference between an auto adjusting cpap machine and the common term auto-pap or apap.
APAP is still a CPAP single pressure machine and in auto mode the pressures will auto adjust as needed.
Technically what ResMed calls it is the official correct terminology.

There might be some room to optimize his therapy a bit to improve things a bit.Just1Starfish wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2019 7:37 amWe've put the machine on auto with settings of 11-20, and using Sleepyhead, he seems to be hanging between 12.5-13.5 most of the time with AHI's consistently less than 3, most of the time less than 2.
Download OSCAR post some graphs and people here will take a look.

Re: Auto-pap vs Auto-adjust CPAP
I downloaded Oscar and just imported his info from there. Sorry, but how do I post graphs here, and which ones are needed? Thank you again!
Re: Auto-pap vs Auto-adjust CPAP
If you change the settings on your machine from your prescription, you can expect the CPAP police to knock on your door soon.
If they don't show up you can enjoy better health by fine tuning your settings with help you will find here.
