Geologically, that makes sense. Pressure is relieved from a molten core through tectonic plate shifts, producing both earthquakes and volcanoes. Ironically enough, volcanoes are thought to be one of the major sources of the dreaded CO2 that actually allowed life to be possible on the planet, since...you know, organic plantlife ingests it and secretes oxygen and sugars via photosynthesis. Since CO2 levels are allegedly rising, I plan on performing a live-action reenactment of Little Shop of Horrors: eaten by a giant Venus Flytrap.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:46 amI read a science article a few weeks ago that claimed without earthquakes the earth would not be populated. Any planet that has tectonic plates will have earthquakes. Without tectonic plates, a planet will be solid rock - uninhabitable.

Trump didn't cause them, so they were marked unworthy for broadcast. They are trying to get Congress to check if they can pin the quakes on him. If they can they will run the Special 24/7. JimChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:13 amCalifornia had six quakes over 3.5 yesterday. We watched CBS news, CNN and Fox - not a single mention. Is there some Media Overlord that has decided it's no longer a story? Trump/AOC Squak seems to dominate the news.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 6:31 pmDue to the overabundance of warnings, it is likely that Californians suffer
from elevated levels of paranoia.
This makes me happy.

I believe the geography of California is a national treasure. It can be breath taking. I enjoy visiting very much, but could never live there.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:21 amEarthquakes are to be expected where geologic conditions promote it.
Sometimes those places also have the most attractive climate.

I've heard a few Californians say similar things about Texas.djams wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 3:17 pmI believe the geography of California is a national treasure. It can be breath taking. I'll be headed down DFW way in a few weeks. I would appreciate it if you folks could keep the temp down for me while I'm there. TIA.

We'll crank it up for you. You haven't lived until you experience Texas in August. It builds fortitude, will make you a better man.

I'm more known for being full of hot air.
Why family would choose August for a Texas wedding, I have no idea. Makes about as much sense as a Buffalo wedding in mid February.
I still have the scars from earlier attempts at fortitude-building.

Re: OT: California Warning Label
Things to remember about Texas in the summer.
You Know You Are in Texas When ....
* You can say 110 degrees without fainting.
* You eat hot chili to cool your mouth off.
* You discover that in July, it takes only 2 fingers to drive your car.
* You can make sun tea instantly.
* You no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water.
* You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
* You notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
* Hotter water comes from the cold water tap than the hot one.
* It's noon in July, kids are on summer vacation, and not one person is moving on the streets.
* You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
* Sunscreen is sold year round, kept at the front of the checkout counter.
* A formula less than 30 SPF is a joke and you only wear that to go to the corner store.
* Hot air balloons can't go up.
* No one would dream of putting vinyl upholstery in a car.
* Your biggest bicycle wreck fear:"What if I get knocked out and lie on the pavement and cook to death?"
* You realize that asphalt has a liquid state
